Mirrorverse snippet 2
(First drabble here)
-
Obi-Wan doesn't really understand why his counterpart is so indulgent with their version of Anakin. He's more than familiar with the other man (having been on several missions with him) and he's very loud and obnoxious. He's nothing like a Jedi should be.
He can understand that the bond between Padawan and Master probably helped a lot in that aspect, but even so the way they acted around each other was so unbecoming. You'd think Kenobi could show a little more decorum considering he was a Master Jedi! Speaking of which, it had stunned Obi-Wan to the point of speechlessness to learn that the other him was not only a Master, but a Council Member at that! What he wouldn't give to have a seat on the Council!
Still, he must be patient. If it happened for Kenobi then perhaps it would eventually happen for him too. One could only hope. He tries not to be jealous. He really does.
He was currently meditating in the room of a thousand fountains. Trying to clear his mind from his turmoil emotions. Ever since the appearance of their counterparts he's had to meditate twice as much it seemed. It was like the universe was testing him.
Out of the corner of his eye he spots Anakin. How curious. He almost never saw the man in here. Before he knows it his body is moving before he gives it permission. He's not sure what possesses him to go over to Anakin. Normally Obi-Wan likes to spend his time alone.
He sits down beside him and gives Anakin a nod. Anakin nods back. Then they both close their eyes and meditate for a while. It's surprisingly peaceful.
Obi-Wan breaks the silence first. "Have you put any thought into taking a Padawan?"
Anakin opens his eyes with slight confusion.
Obi-Wan offers a smile. "I hear your counterpart really quite enjoys teaching."
He'd been surprised to hear that Ahsoka Tano, his very own padawan, was actually Skywalker's Padawan in that other world. He cannot even begin to imagine the chaos those two got up to.
Anakin shrugs. "Dunno. Maybe."
They fall into silence again.
"Did you ever–"
"Are you–"
They both stop.
"You go first." Anakin insists, unsure what he'd been saying anyway.
Obi-Wan gives him another smile. Anakin swallows quietly. Damn the man but he really did look nice like this. Now that he knew what a laughing Obi-Wan looked like he couldn't get it out of his head. Now that he knew what an Obi-Wan that liked him looked like, would he even be able to return to the status quo?
Just as Obi-Wan opens his mouth, Skywalker drops onto him from behind. His arms snake around him, head nudging catlike against his.
"Master!"
Obi-Wan stiffens and squeaks indignantly. Skywalker pauses. He leans back to look down at the man he's accosted.
"You're not Obi-Wan," he says like it's Obi-Wan's fault for confusing him.
He unlatches off him and stands up. "Now where did he go?" Skywalker mutters under his breath.
He spots Kenobi by the pool and runs off. Kenobi senses his approach and turns to greet him. Kenobi accepts him happily into his lap and the two fall over laughing as they roll in the grass.
Obi-Wan coughs and runs a hand through his ruined hair. He cannot believe any counterpart of himself would ever be so obscene. So brazenly open. They just sat there nuzzling each other! (And yet he must begrudgingly admit the pair did look quite happy.)
Obi-Wan clears his throat, needing a change of subject. "I was thinking about a game of chess if you're up for it?"
Anakin's mouth opens slightly. He tilts his head. Then smirks.
-
Unbeknownst to Obi-Wan, Anakin had played the game plenty of times with Qui-Gon. The man thought it a marvelous way to expand the mind. Anakin had gotten quite proficient.
They end in a stalemate. It seemed Qui-Gon taught them both well. They eat and drink and play until it's twilight. Anakin's feet feel stiff from sitting so long. He needs to stretch. That's when an idea alights in his head.
"Do you want to spar?"
Obi-Wan's expression slackens in surprise. Several emotions flit through his face too fast to identify. Then he smiles softly. "Yes."
Together they make their way to the courtyard. Apparently they weren't the only ones with the idea, for Master Kenobi and Knight Skywalker are already sparring. They're breathless and sweating profusely. Twin grins of joy stretch their lips. They move as one, fighting like they're two sides of the same soul.
Anakin wants that. He wants to know what it's like to have that.
The two finally notice them. Or rather Master Kenobi does. With Kenobi glancing away from his opponent, Skywalker takes his distraction to his advantage and tackles him.
"Anakin!" Kenobi shrieks. But then he laughs. They roll around trying to wrestle each other into submission.
Skywalker wraps his arm around Kenobi's neck. "Yield Master!"
Kenobi mumbles something, seemingly yielding. The arm loosens. Then Kenobi throws Skywalker over his back and onto the unforgiving ground. Skywalker looks up at him betrayed. Kenobi shrugs unapologetic.
"Never let your guard down, darling."
“You're one to talk!”
The two stand, fight now over, and greet the other pair.
"Mats all yours!" Kenobi says pleasantly.
But Anakin doesn't really feel like it anymore. how he's supposed to spar with what he's just witnessed?
Nevertheless, they get into position and begin.
Their rhythm is off. Right from the start it's clumsy and awkward. It's nothing like the natural ebb and flow of their counterparts. It's all wrong. Anakin can tell Obi-Wan is frustrated as well. They try to change it up but several minutes in its clear that they just can't get it right.
The match ends far sooner than either would like. They part ways back to their respective quarters. Anakin has the strangest urge to ask him for another spar tomorrow. But he doesn't. There'd be no point.

YES!!! Overanalyzing is the BEST!!!!! Woot!
Tumblr media
This got long, so to save people the hassle of having to scroll aaaaaall the way through it and risk straining or breaking their fingers, I'll put this under the cut ;)
I was looking at those curves as well and I guess it MIGHT be that, but the angle doesn't seem quite right to me, especially considering the stuff under/behind it. But yeah, it doesn't really matter in the long run. Still fun, though!! And YES!! That place is GORGEOUS!!! I reeeeally want to see more of it in the next ep (and hopefully beyond if the Imps don't end up finding it 😬😬😬) and especially inside!! I want to see what's in there! There could be fun easter eggs in there or some awesome game-changer items as well!! I've also thought that the place miiiiiiight be an old Jedi Temple????? Probably not, but it kinda gave me that feel when I first saw it. Time will tell!!
NEVER enough Rex!! And if they're planning something big then they might need some extra help from, say, Gregor, Wolffe (I want to see his rescue, but I'd be okay with just seeing him newly-free!), and maybe....Cody???? PLEASE bring him back!!! 😭🙏
HA! Very true about DBB! I love him to bits!! And as far as I can tell, it's more of an hourly rate, so it would be closer to 'payed by line'. I've done research in that realm as it's my goal to become a voice actor/audiobook reader ;)
Oh my gosh I am a re-watching MACHING!!!! So for S1 (which I started late - Feb of last year) I have re-watched the entire season 9 whole times (not counting individual ep re-watches) and for S2 I started with watching them 7 times per, then I rewatched 1-6 an extra time before the midseason, making it 8 times per, which I've kept up to now (currently on my 7th re-watch of 'Pabu'), but I also want to do a 1-13 re-watch before the finale with one ep per day, meaning today I got up to watching ep 5 for the 9th time and I will continue doing that (one ep a day) until I get to ep 14 for the last (and, through me week-long re-watches, 9th total) time on March 28th before watching the final 2 eps at midnight on the 29th. I'll watch (and cry over, probably) those two eps 9 total times (just to keep everything even 😉). Then I'll probably do a full S2 re-watch and then a S1-S2 re-watch. Then during the summer I want to do another full chronological TCW re-watch, followed by TBB S1-5, then 'Rebels', and then (if the rumors are true) I'll be ready for when 'Ahsoka' airs in the late summer. But who's obsessed, hmmm? 😅
*cough* But yeah, anyway, it'll be really great to see the whole picture of S2 while binging instead of the agonizing week-by-week slog we've had to suffer through 😩😩😩 Just with the shorter binges I've done of part of the season, it works better than having to wait a week and also know what's coming so you can appreciate more of what's happening in each episode.
I checked 1.15 and 1.16 and they were normal length (24:07 and 26:14 respectively). But here's hoping!!!! 🤞🤞🤞
I saw a screenshot of an interview snippet or something from a while back that said 4 seasons were planned? But I have no idea how much that was subject to change or anything. If anything, I'd want it to change to MORE!!!!! They've done an AMAZING job showing the phasing out of clones and the introduction of TK/Stormtroopers this season (Crosshair's eps have taken the brunt of THAT!!! OOF!!!) and the Zillo ep really kicked off from where the final scene of S1 teased us with the cloning storyline. I definitely think S3 will delve more fully into that. I've often wondered just how much the "somehow Palpatine returned" bit was planned and how much of what we're seeing in recent media is just scrambling to try and explain it. So long as they explain it well and it's entertaining, I don't really care!
And YES!!! fanfiction is ALWAYS there to fill our needs!! Though....usually....I make angsty/whumpy stuff, so I'm not helping matters there hahaha!
Alright, time to hop over to reddit! hahaha
Tell me what you think because I realised this shit as I was falling asleep and I now I can't go unless I get it out there:
Does the colour scheme of the background sort of look like the colour scheme of the houses and buildings on Pabu?
Tumblr media
So, theory: Cid didn't sound...normal? the last time she contacted the guys and it's actually because the empire has gotten hold of her to try to bait the bad batch into coming into contact with her again. Well, that didn't work, so Cid suggests contacting Echo alone and tells him about Cross needing help (she knows the group has split) and that checks the "Cid is going to betray them" checkbox. Echo and Rex fall for it, contact the rest of the batch because they are going to need as much help as they can get in infiltrating Tantiss, and head to Pabu to rendezvous. That's where we get the long awaited Echo and Omega reunion. The group head to Tantiss, get Crosshair out, but in the process Omega is captured. They are forced to leave her to save injured/drugged/traumatised/comatose Cross and themselves. We open season 3 on Omega being experimented on or being mistreated to get Nala Se to cooperate.

Five Times Din Accidentally Turned You On
Pairing - Din Djarin x Reader
Summary - It’s embarrassing how a man whose face you have never seen is able to turn you on so quickly without even realizing it.
Word Count - 3k
Warnings - brief description of an injury, but that’s it!
When you had agreed to start working with the Mandalorian and met the little green menace, you knew that your life was going to be turned upside down into chaos.
You had expected most of that chaos to come from the bugger, not from your apparent lack of control over your hormones.
It was ridiculous. There was no way that you should be this attracted to a man whose face you had never seen. If your mother could see you right now, she would think that you were crazy. Of course, she thought you were crazy already for traveling with a Mandalorian around the Galaxy, but this would be a whole new level for her.
Yet, here you stood, a little goblin attached at your hip, watching the tension rising with mounting anxiety. You clutched the kid closer to your side as Mando confronted the man, who you now knew wasn’t a Mandalorian, but a Marshal instead, asking him where he got his armor.
“Bought it off some Jawas.” He answered, taking a sip of his spotchka.
“Hand it over.”
Maker he was so damn menacing when he was like this. Even without being able to see his face, you felt a shiver going down your spine from his tone. He was so intimidating; you didn’t see how anyone stood a chance.
You also didn’t see how you continued to find it so kriffing attractive.
“Look, pal, I’m sure you call the shots where you come from, but ‘round here, I’m the one tells folks what to do.” Vanth replied.
“Take it off.” Mando said, stepping forward. “Or I will.”
As soon as he said those words, all you could think about was him saying them in . . . another context. There was no way you could control your response. At least that’s what you tried to tell yourself after you let out the oddest little half squeak / half choked sound. You bit your lip as you watched everyone in the room, the bartender, Cobb Vanth, and even Mando’s helmet tilt in your direction. You even felt the little womp rat’s head turn towards you curiously. Which gave you the idea. “I - the kid - I’m gonna - while you two work this out.” You said, gesturing to him before hurrying outside.
As soon as you stepped out of the bar, you took a deep breath, and then let out a loud groan of embarrassment. Looking down at the kid, he gave you a look that clearly said he was disgruntled at being blamed for a noise you made.
“I’m sorry, buddy, sometimes your dad . . .” You were not about to tell this little guy how hot you thought his dad was. “You’ve got to take one for the team this time okay? I’ll get you cookies to make up for it later.” You added when he didn’t seem like he was pleased with that.
At least bribery worked with him.

For as long as you could remember, you loved flying. You didn’t know where it had come from, since your mom was scared of heights and you didn’t know anything about your father other than he had been a farmer, but from the moment that you looked up into the sky and saw a ship soaring overhead, you had loved it. Getting the chance to live on a ship and see the galaxy that way was another reason you had said yes to Mando when he asked.
Flying on a ship with a Mandalorian Bounty Hunter was nothing like you expected though.
Your eyes drifted back and forth from the sky to Mando, too captivated by the sight in front of you to be scared. Tie fighters were shooting at you from what seemed like every direction, but you couldn’t bring yourself to be worried. Mando would take care of you. He always did.
You glanced over at the child who was buckled up in a seat next to you, his little green hands in the air as he cooed and giggled in excitement. Despite the situation, you couldn’t help but grin at the sight.
“Hang on,” Mando said to the two of you, and your arm reached out to the kid, close enough to where you could grab him if he went flying. You held your breath as the Crest began to fall for a moment until Mando engaged it once more, spinning it in circles to avoid the tie fighter’s blasts. The Child’s laughter became louder in your ears as you grabbed a hold of his clothes, but your eyes were glued to the sight in front of you, adrenaline pounding in your veins as you came closer and closer -
Then he blasted it out of the sky, as you knew he would.
You let out a cheer, echoed by the gremlin next to you, and leaned forward, finding a bit of Mando’s arm that wasn’t covered in armor and giving it a squeeze. “That was amazing! I’ll never understand how you can do that so easily.” You told him, your voice as breathless as if you had been the one flying.
“Wasn’t going to let anything happen to you.” He said, and by the way his muscles tensed under your hand, you got the feeling he hadn’t meant to say that.
It was no secret that Mando was protective of you. He had been from the start, but hearing him say it like that? Almost . . . possessive? Maker, the way it made you feel. You opened your mouth. You weren’t sure what you were going to say, but before you could, he interrupted you. “And the kid of course. Not too bad, huh kid?” He asked, looking at him over his shoulder.
The little womp rat gagged, expelling the remains of his blue cookies.

All of this was way out of your league, that was obvious enough. The Jedi, the Force, all of those things had been over your head from the start. They had been legends for so long, it was hard to believe that the little green gremlin you had been looking after, Grogu, you corrected yourself, was one of them.
You watched as the Jedi, Ahsoka Tano, beckoned Din over to her, deciding to use Din to get Grogu to show his powers. The bond the two of them shared had grown even more so over the past couple of months, and you had to admit, if anyone could get Grogu to use his powers, it would be Din.
Sure enough, after some coddling, Grogu made his favorite little silver ball fly from Din’s fingers to his hand. The smile on your face widened as Din spoke. “Good job! Good job, kid!” He exclaimed, stepping towards him. “You see that?” He asked you and Ahsoka without waiting for an answer. He stopped in front of him, bending down to his level, “that’s right. I knew you could do it.” He took the silver ball from him, “Very good.”
Warmth filled your chest at the proud tone in his voice. The way that he interacted with Grogu was one of the cutest things that you had ever seen. While he wasn’t the kid’s biological father, you knew that he was close enough. You couldn’t even begin to imagine how great he would be with his own kids, if he decided to have them one day.
. . . maybe with you.
The intrusive thought had the heat rushing to your face, and you cleared your throat as if it would help get the images out of your mind.
“Are you all right?” Ahsoka asked from next to you.
You nodded, but from the smirk on her lips, you got the feeling that her and her Jedi mind tricks knew exactly why you had gone into a coughing fit.
____________________
“You’re getting better.”
The words should have been a comfort to you. Din had been teaching you fighting techniques for months, but now that the kid - Grogu, had been taken, you were practicing with renewed vigor as you all geared up for a mission to find Moff Gideon’s coordinates. You knew that you were getting better, and Din didn’t say anything he didn’t mean, but you knew it wasn’t enough. “I can’t get the kick.” You mumbled, brushing some of your sweaty hair out of your eyes.
He nodded, and your heart rate kicked up even more as he moved around behind you. He was so close you could hear every slide of that beskar as it moved with him. “You need to widen your stance.” He gave a gentle kick to your left foot, and you obediently spread your leg further apart. “Adjust your hips like this . . .” The cool leather of his gloves landed on your hips, moving them into position. “Now find your center of gravity.” He added, his voice even lower than normal.
It turned your brain to mush. How the hell were you supposed to concentrate like this? The man you desired more than anything was so close to you that you could feel every exhale of that beskar chest piece against your back, hear every breath as it exited his helmet.
“You can do it.” Din said, his hands giving your hips a little squeeze.
You remembered him saying those words. To a little green goblin that had stolen your heart. A child you were determined to get back. The thought managed to snap you back into focus, and with a deep breath you executed the move to perfection.
Well, sorta.
Din caught you as you stumbled back from the momentum, his fast reflexes allowing him to wrap his arm around your waist and catch your back against his hard chest with a soft chuckle. The sound, so rarely heard, made your stomach swirl with butterflies. “Good girl. Just have to work on your balance.”
Good girl? Good girl? Dank farrik was he trying to kill you? You stumbled out of his arms, heat rushing to your face. “I’ve got to - I can’t - I’ve got to go.” You couldn’t be around him for a second longer or you were pretty sure you’d lose your mind and do something stupid like beg him to call you that again. Preferably with no clothes on.
Even if you couldn’t see his face, you could tell by the tilt of his helmet in your direction that he was confused.
You didn’t stick around long enough to give him the chance to ask any questions.
____________________
Everything had happened so quickly it turned into a blur in your mind. Storming the ship, getting shot by a blaster and having to be dragged by Fennic and Bo-Katan onto the bridge while you tried not to scream at the pain in your thigh, Din arriving with Grogu and the dark saber in his hands, and Moff Gideon in his custody. Then there was the DarkTroopers arriving and subsequently being destroyed by a Jedi.
And as soon as you had gotten Grogu back . . . he was gone again.
You didn’t look when Din took his helmet off. Your eyes stayed glued to Grogu as soon as you had seen his hands move to the helmet. It seemed . . . disrespectful to look. This moment was for the two of them, no one else. When Grogu was gone, the helmet went back on, and without anything to distract you from the pain anymore, you let out a whimper.
 Din rushed to your side at once, and you thought he might have been grateful for something to focus on other than your little family of three now becoming one of two. He lifted you into his arms without a second thought, and after some directions from Bo-Katan, carried you to a small medbay where he got to work on your wound.
Watching him was a nice distraction as he ripped open the leg of your pants until he could see all of the wound. The display was already stirring something inside of you, and it escalated as he took his gloves off and touched you for the first time with his bare hands.
They were large, but of course you already knew that. The gentleness they touched you with though . . . it was a sharp contrast to the way he had ripped your pants. He touched you as if he wasn’t worthy to be touching you. Hesitant and soft, every movement of his fingers slow and careful as if you were going to be scared away. When he pressed against the edge of your wound, the whimper that left your lips wasn’t only because of the pain.
“I’m sorry,” he murmured, his voice rough through his helmet as he grabbed ahold of some bacta spray from a table nearby. While the bacta helped the pain, it didn’t help your racing heart.
It was embarrassing. More so than it had ever been, that you couldn’t get your feelings under control. Surely he had to notice. The amount of times you had done something stupid because you had taken what he said the wrong way or touched you was numerous. How could he not know? Had he been humoring you because you were good with the kid?
And now that Grogu was gone, did he even want you around anymore?
The sudden thought made you tense because while it had come out of nowhere, it could be true. Yes, you could do some simple repairs and cook, but your main job had been watching after Grogu. He didn’t need that now. He had survived fine by himself before you got there, what’s to say he wouldn’t want to go back to that? He’d never given you any indication that he didn’t. Was this the last time the two of you would be together?
Attentive as always, he noticed the shift in your mood at once. He spoke your name, soft and almost melodic. “What are you thinking about?”
Of course the one time you most needed to lie to him, you couldn’t bring yourself to do it. Not after what had happened. “Do you want me to go?” You whispered, looking down at the ground. You couldn’t stand to see what his expression might be.
There was a moment’s pause that made your heartbeat pick up, and for the first time around Din, not in a good way. “What?” He asked, his voice sounding a little strangled.
As was your normal response when you got nervous, you started babbling. “I know I mostly looked after the kid. I’m not a fighter . . . I’m not a Mandalorian . . . I’m a nuisance and another mouth to feed. If you want me to go, I can go.” Would it break your heart? Absolutely, but you never wanted to be somewhere you weren’t wanted.
“Stop,” was all he said, so quiet you almost didn’t hear him.
But you continued, unable to keep the words from leaving your mouth. “Bo-Katan or Fett can drop me off at the nearest planet, and you won’t -”
There was a loud clunk as a helmet of beskar hit the floor. You jumped, the sound startling you and you watched as it rolled a bit, stopping a couple of feet away. “Look at me.”
It was the second time you had heard his voice without the helmet, but it struck you harder this time. Maker it was beautiful. Gruff and low, yet somehow he was so . . . soft spoken as well. As if he wasn’t sure how to talk without his helmet, and you guessed he probably wasn’t. You wanted to do what he asked. You wanted to know what he looked like, but it still felt so private . . .
He said your name again, and you almost started crying at how tenderly he spoke it. His hand found your chin, tilting it up to reveal his facial hair covered jaw, his pale, pink lips, and pointed nose, all the way to the most beautiful, most expressive brown eyes you had ever seen.
Din Djarin was in fact, every bit as handsome as you imagined him to be, which made your next words so much harder for you to say. “I have feelings for you.” You gasped out. “Strong - really strong ones, and they’re not going to go away. So if you can’t deal with that I need to -”
His hands cupped your cheeks and all of the sudden, Din was leaning closer. So close that your breath mingled with his and everything around the two of you seemed to vanish. There was nothing else that mattered except this moment. You expected him to say something, anything that would cut this tension that hung in the air, but he didn’t.
Instead he closed the small distance between the two of you and kissed you.
It was soft. Oh, so much softer than you ever expected him to be capable of doing. Then you realized how stupid that was of you to think, because Din had never been anything but soft with the people that he cared about.
For a moment you didn’t move, still surprised that he was kissing you, but then you couldn’t hold back. Your lips moved against his, as lightly as his were moving against yours. Your fingers were itching to touch him, to tangle in those messy brown waves, but you were afraid to scare him off. So they hung by your side at a safe distance while Din continued to kiss you and make sure that you never wanted to kiss anyone else ever again.
After what seemed like hours, and you wouldn’t complain if it had been, he pulled back, but not far enough to put any real distance between the two of you, instead pressing his forehead against your own. “Just because I gave up the kid, doesn’t mean I want to give you up too.” You let out a soft sigh as his lips left gentle kisses across your jaw and cheek. “Stay with me. Stay cyar’ika.” He whispered against your skin.
As if anything could pull you away now.

Nat hi!!! Prompts!!!
How about repair for Obi and soka?? 💕
yes of course! // from these prompts
(also sorry this took so long, my bad)
repair - being confined to bed due to injury or illness and hating every second of it.
~~~
"Ahsoka, it’s time for medicine."
"No," Ahsoka said, crossing her arms with an indignant huff. "It's gross. Don't want it."
"Ahsoka,” Obi-Wan warned. “You need to take your medicine if you want to get better."
Ahsoka huffed again, turning her head to face the blank wall.
Normally, Ahsoka wouldn't be one to put on such a display of petulance for her Grandmaster. But for the last two days she had been stuck in bed suffering from a case of bronchitis which had not so fortunately developed after her latest mission to a dingy jungle planet. And so she had been left feeling tired, weak, and miserable—not to mention the cough, fever, and oh so wonderful chest pain that accompanied her affliction. So right now acting 'normal' was the last thing she wanted to care about.
Obi-Wan let out an exasperated sigh before sitting down on the side of the bed—Ahsoka could tell from the way she felt the mattress dip beside her, the slight creak that came along with it. She turned to look at him.
In his hands, the older Jedi was holding a small bottle filled with brown liquid; her medicine. She had already taken it four times within the last two days since she had been assigned to bedrest on Master Che's orders—much to Ahsoka's chagrin—and each time the taste seemed to become more and more intolerable. 'Gross' would be an understatement. She would rather have one of those awful fruit-flavoured medicines than this rancid concoction.
"Come on, Ahsoka," Obi-Wan said, shooting her a sort of sympathetic smile. Of course he was being sympathetic. Ahsoka looked down at her lap, picking mindlessly at the stray threads on the seam of the mattress. You’re not the one who’s suffering here, Master Kenobi. "It will only be bad for a minute,” he continued. “You handled it last time, so I am sure you can manage it again."
Ahsoka glanced up from her lap, opening her mouth to reply—but suddenly there was an odd yet familiar sensation in her chest and in her throat. Before she knew it she had erupted into a coughing fit; holding her chest, coughing harshly into her elbow. She felt a hand on her back a moment later, moving in gentle, comforting circles.
As soon as the coughing finally eased, Obi-Wan handed her her glass of water from where it had been sitting on the nightstand and waited patiently at her side as she caught back her breath.
"Thank you," she said sheepishly, her voice grating even after taking a few sips. Obi-Wan took back her glass with a warm smile.
"It seems your body is trying to tell you to take your medicine too," he said, setting the glass down on the nightstand with a slight grin—a 'you know i'm right' type of grin. Ahsoka rolled her eyes. He was right, though wether she wanted to admit that or not was a different story.
"Fine," she mumbled, letting out a sigh of defeat. Obi-Wan breathed out a light chuckle before he lifted the bottle of medicine to check the dosage, unscrewing the cap and picking up the spoon.
"Do you want to hold the spoon, or do you want me to feed it to you like the last time?" he said. He was genuinely asking the question but there was something in his eyes; a spark of humour flared. Ahsoka narrowed her gaze.
"I'll hold it myself this time, thank you very much," she said, snatching the spoon from his offering hand. The older Jedi let out a chuckle before he held up his hands placatingly.
“By all means.”
Ahsoka watched as Obi-Wan slowly poured the medicine onto her spoon, wrinkling her nose as she eyed the rancid liquid. She really didn’t want to have to drink this again.
"Are you going to drink it?” Obi-Wan asked after a few moments, noticing that she had yet to make any move to drink the medicine. “Or are you just going to stare at it until it goes away?"
“The second option sounds nice.”
“Well, I’m afraid that would be rather fruitless, my dear.”
Ahsoka scrunched her nose and let out a huff. Fine, I’ll do it. Taking a deep breath, she lifted the spoon to her mouth and downed the brown liquid, gagging at the awful flavour and the sickly way it coated her tongue, her throat.
“Good girl,” Obi-Wan murmured, taking back the spoon only for him to pour out another spoonful of the medicine. Because one just wasn’t enough.
“One more. Here you go. You can do it, young one.”
Ahsoka let out a whine—she didn’t care that Master Kenobi was taking the brunt of her petulance, even when she knew it wasn’t directly his fault for her suffering. It was just easier to blame him since he was the one technically forcing her to drink the medicine at the moment. She grabbed the spoon and drank the rest of her medicine, but before she could gag again Obi-Wan lifted a glass of water to her lips and she drank it gratefully, though it did little to get rid of the rancid aftertaste lingering in her mouth.
As she sipped her water, around the rim of the glass Ahsoka could see Obi-Wan silently studying her. She lowered the glass to rest in her lap and Obi-Wan’s gaze stayed focused on her for another few moments before his lips curled into a sympathetic pout.
“You really aren’t enjoying yourself, are you?”
Ahsoka mimicked his pouty expression. He was right. She very much was not enjoying herself. At that, Obi-Wan shuffled a little closer and settled a hand on her back. Ahsoka relaxed into the touch.
“Is there anything I can do or get for you that might help you feel a little better?” he asked. Ahsoka breathed out a sigh—but when she felt a tickle in her chest she froze, bringing a hand up to her mouth, steeling herself for another coughing fit. She waited. False alarm.
“I just wish I wasn’t stuck in bed all day,” she mumbled, letting herself fall against her Grandmaster’s shoulder. She felt Obi-Wan tense at the action, but it was only a moment before his tensed muscles relaxed and he wrapped his arm around her shoulder, surrendering to the touch.
“Well you’re going to have to stay here until you get better, I’m afraid,” he said, his voice reverberating through her montrals. “But,” he continued, “If you would like, I could teach you how to play that variant of Sabacc I told you about.”
Ahsoka perked up. “Really?”
“Yes, really,” Obi-Wan replied. Then, quieter, “As long as you don’t tell Anakin.”
“Deal.” Ahsoka grinned. Finally, something interesting. She had previously been stuck watching cheesy romance holos with Anakin before he had to leave for the front (which he wasn’t too happy about—having to leave her behind while she was sick—though Obi-Wan had managed to reassure him that she would be fine) and he had cried at every single one of them. Ahsoka really didn’t understand what was so sad about them—they were so predictable! But apparently Anakin didn’t see it that way.
“All right. Why don’t you get yourself comfortable while I go fetch the sabacc cards from my quarters.”
While Obi-Wan left the room to find the deck of sabacc cards Ahsoka did as he said and tried to make herself comfortable, pulling her favourite blue fuzzy blanket around her shoulders and settling herself against her propped up pillows.
Shortly, Obi-Wan came back, sabacc cards in hand and plopped down on the opposite end of her bed with as much grace as a Jedi Master of his standing could muster.
Which, at the moment, didn’t seem to be a very high level of grace, now that said Jedi Master was trying failing to stifle a coughing fit after landing a little harder than he must have expected.
“Master…”
“I’m fine, Ahsoka—that was nothing.”
“It didn’t seem like nothing,” she muttered, watching as Obi-Wan sheepishly evaded her gaze as he tried yet again to stifle another feeble cough. “Master, I think you might have caught what I have.”
“No no—I’m fine.”
“Master.”
“No, I’m—”
Suddenly Obi-Wan burst into a full-fledged coughing fit, holding a fist to his mouth and a hand to his chest, pointedly turning fully away from Ahsoka. As soon as the worst of the coughing ceased, finally, Obi-Wan let out a sigh.
“I suppose you may be right,” he rasped. Ahsoka felt a pang in her chest that had nothing to do with her current infliction.
“I’m sorry.”
“No, it’s not your fault Ahsoka.”
“But you caught it from me—if I hadn’t—”
“No. This isn’t your fault, young one. If anything, it’s mine. I sent you on that mission. If you hadn’t gone, you wouldn’t have gotten sick.”
Ahsoka rolled her eyes. Of course he was trying to blame himself for this. But before she could mutter a reply, tell him that it really was her fault for making him sick, Obi-Wan reached out to feel her forehead. Ahsoka couldn’t help but lean into the touch. His skin was cool; ice for the burn of her fever. She let out a small, satisfied hum before he pulled away.
“Just checking,” he said. “Not too bad.”
Then, before Obi-Wan could move, Ahsoka quickly lifted her hand to feel his forehead. He didn’t feel too warm, though she didn’t miss the slight sag of his shoulders, the way he seemed to surrender to the touch.
“Just checking,” she said with a smirk. Obi-Wan’s look of surprise fell into that of fondness, shaking his head with a slight grin as he moved back to sit across from her.
“Well,” he said, opening the deck of sabacc cards in front of him. “Seeing as the two of us are now most likely going to be stuck here for several days, would you like me to teach you this special variant of sabacc now?”
Ahsoka nodded with a grin, pulling her fuzzy blanket even tighter around herself.
“Alright,” Obi-Wan said. “Let’s get started.”
Hellooooo! "Dragging themselves along the ground" with anyone you want? I hope I'm doing this right oop
Tumblr media
Always happy to have you Screamakin! And yes, absolutely.
The battle is a normal one — normal for them, at least.
Yoda’s lineage through Count Dooku have always had a flair for causing and attracting trouble.
Place Dooku on one side of the war, position his Grandpadawan as one of the highest ranking Jedi Generals on the other side, and his own Padawan and Grandpadawan below him running the fastest-moving legion in the Republic, well.
The most dramatic battles go to the most dramatic lineage.
Anakin is carving his way up the narrow canyon, refusing to allow his troops to be boxed in and slaughtered. His face is covered in soot and dust that only makes his scowl more pronounced.
Rex had chucked his helmet aside hours ago after it cracked in an explosion; now he fights bareheaded and with one fractured wrist, his jaw set.
Ahsoka darts all over the line like a spark from a fire. Her twin sabers dance and carve their way through droids almost constantly.
The time for joking and tallying up kills passed sometime early in the morning when the first landslide, triggered by a bomb, had buried dozens of droids and men alike. When strategy had begun to fail them.
When Obi-Wan had been forced to leave them, springing up to the rim of the canyon to face Dooku alone, while Anakin and Ahsoka advanced on Ventress.
Anakin glances up for the hundredth time, catching another fleeting glimpse of his friend dueling the Sith, blue on red, beige on black.
They engage and disengage, run and return, and on the ground the Seps and the Clones battle for ground while Ventress and Anakin and Ahsoka lead the way, clashing from time to time.
It’s only a matter of time before—
And then somewhere high above there’s a deafening crack. Part of the cliff wall begins to give way right beneath Tyrranus and Kenobi.
The Sith leaps clear.
The Jedi does not, struggling with all his might to hold the earth together while the combatants below flee, trying to avoid impending death.
“Master Obi-Wan!” Ahsoka cries out, pausing briefly to look up at him in shock.
Rex tackles her as Ventress descends on the Padawan like a vulture. Before Rex can move to defend them, Anakin attacks Ventress, his face bloodless with fear. “Don’t—you—touch—them,” Anakin snarls at her, their sabers spitting sparks as they collide inches between their faces.
She laughs at him. “Foolish little Jedi. You and your Master. One of you is about to watch the other fall, mark my words!”
Anakin bellows in denial and flings her backward so hard there’s an audible crunch when she hits the ground.
Ahsoka is up again, still taking down droids but distracted by the scene above.
Dooku is watching calmly, red saber held loosely in one hand, as he watches his Padawan’s Padawan fight for his life and the lives of those below him.
Obi-Wan is weakening.
Everyone can see it.
Anakin can feel it.
“Master!” he screams up at them, not even knowing if he can be heard. “Hold on! I’m coming!”
Obi-Wan has his arms spread wide, his legs braced as he trembles with the effort of holding the cliffside together — long enough, just long enough — his lightsaber is still alight, held out parallel to the ground. There is no room in his mind to worry about defending himself.
“Obi-Wan!” Anakin slices another droid in half and leaps over its crumbling body to stand on top of a fallen tank. He’s a visible target up here but that doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter.
He reaches upwards and into the Force, feels his power combine with his Master’s.
There are still men fleeing.
They have to hold the canyon wall. Have to.
Anakin feels sweat rolling down his face, sees the distant silhouette of Obi-Wan still struggling on the cliff’s edge, balanced on earth that wants very much to fall.
But they’re nearly there. Rex and Cody are directing the battle, hurling a desperate attack to the enemy, driving them back, giving the Clones room to move.
Soon they will be safely out of the way.
Just as Anakin thinks this, Rex screams, “CLEAR!”
Anakin looks up at Obi-Wan and sees his shoulders slump in exhaustion and relief. The older Jedi begins carefully to maneuver himself along the ground, moving himself out of the way, now that the others are safe and there’s time to concentrate on himself.
And then with a lazy flick of the hand, Dooku uses the Force to send Obi-Wan flying over the edge and into thin air.
Anakin screams.
Obi-Wan is falling, falling.
He’s trying to slow himself down but he’s drained from holding the cliff together, and the cliff is crumbling now without the Jedi holding it up— Anakin throws himself frantically into the Force again, shoving his arms into the air, but it’s not enough.
Obi-Wan is swallowed by the roaring tide of soil and stone, and with a thunderous crash the wall collapses, sending dust flying into the air in a thick cloud.
And burying a Jedi beneath its weight.
“No!” Anakin doesn’t hesitate.
There’s still hope.
There has to be hope.
Obi-Wan cannot die like this—
Ahsoka is by his side. They leave the battle to the capable hands of their men and abandon their posts entirely, running into the debris and desperately reaching out for Obi-Wan.
Their connection with him is so thin.
Anakin quails at it.
How dare it be so fragile? Obi-Wan is too important to die like this!
There’s only dust and blindness and mountains of freshly fallen earth though.
There’s nothing—
Ahsoka suddenly veers right, her lightsabers raised aggressively. “Get off him!” she screams.
Anakin looks, and feels his heart stop once again as he sees Obi-Wan, covered in dust, bleeding, half of his face obscured by blood, crawling across the earth.
And standing over him with an amused expression was the Count, one hand extended, holding an invisible tether around Obi-Wan with the Force, keeping him from moving.
Obi-Wan coughs, his breath rasping, and spits out blood.
He’s hurt, he’s so so hurt—
The bloodied palms scrape the earth helplessly.
“Obi-Wan!” Anakin cries, and he gives Dooku a look full of rage and pure loathing. “Let. Him. Go!”
Dooku only smiles.
Obi-Wan lifts his head. His red hair is barely visible through all the dirt, but his blue eyes open cautiously, blinking against grit, and settle on Anakin.
A look of foggy relief enters those eyes.
He sees Anakin.
He knows he’s safe.
Anakin doesn’t. Anakin doesn’t know; his heart is pounding so hard it feels like it’s trying to escape his chest with brute force, and all he can think is Obi-Wan Obi-Wan Obi-Wan—
His best friend struggles to move closer to them, and his injured face creases with confusion as he discovers that he can’t get any closer.
“An...” he coughs, looking up again, his forehead wrinkled with bewilderment. “Anak...Anakin?”
“I’m here Master,” answers Anakin, his eyes darting between Dooku and Obi-Wan, the cat playing with his all-too-helpless prey.
“Let go of him!” he orders.
Obi-Wan wheezes for breath and hangs his head, still trying to move, dragging his fingers through the earth.
His hands leave bloody furrows in the ground.
“I swear, if you don’t release Master Obi-Wan,” Ahsoka threatens, but doesn’t finish.
Obi-Wan looks around at her.
“‘Soka?” he whispers.
He looks so very tired now.
But he doesn’t stop trying to get to them.
“I’m here, Master,” she calls back. “You’re going to be okay.”
“Put him down and fight me!” Anakin roars at Tyrranus, brandishing his lightsaber.
“Oh, Skywalker,” drawls the Count. “Didn’t this one ever manage to teach you to choose your words more carefully?”
And without hesitation, without even the flicker of an eye, the Sith closes the fist that was holding his hostage still, and with a dreadful crack, Obi-Wan’s neck snaps.
He falls dead.
Sprawled in the dust, one hand still outstretched, trying to reach Anakin.
It’s over before anything can be done.
“Down like a dog,” Dooku says with satisfaction.
Anakin and Ahsoka stand paralyzed, staring at Obi-Wan’s corpse with horrified eyes. Unable to move, to think, to understand.
Dooku raises his red saber in a mock salute. “I believe you wanted to fight, next?”
Major Buir (Plo Koon x reader)
{masterlist}
Words: 3.7k
Warnings: Unedited, Plo Koon trying to flirt but not quite understanding how to make the swoon, Wolffe being the embarrassed son, potential second hand embarrassment for the reader because I think that Plo is very sweet but is not well versed in the art of flirting. Clones being dumb and cute. Angry Wolffe, potential fluff overload-I got a little carried away.
Notes: Yeeee it’s my first time writing for Plo-would it be wrong to tag?...I’m gonna do it. @a-dorin , I would like to thank you for inspiring me to write this. I find myself steadily becoming a Plo simp and your fics have only accelerated my downward spiral.
Also, this was only supposed to be about 1.5k words...woops
……………………………………
“From this, we can conclude that the remnants of the Ehterium cluster supernova would provide a suitable route around this Separatist controlled rat’s nest.” You sniffed carefully and lowered the pointer to tap against the ground but it landed on your foot. Swiftly, you moved it again so it actually tapped against the durasteel floor of the briefing room. A few chuckles slipped from the gathered cloned men and Jedi generals currently scanning over your notes on the holomap that had witnessed the little slip-up. “Though I can understand the hesitance-which is why I have also taken the liberty of charting a different course around the cluster entirely. It would take much longer though and would put you in more danger in the long run as you’d be exposed and out of range for too...long.” You trailed off, suddenly self-conscious of the overuse of the word ‘long’. Even though you’d worked for the GAR since the start of the clone wars (and technically before that if you counted all the academy training) you’d never gotten the hang of the ‘intimidating analytics and tactician officer’ schtick despite trying. You were often compared to a little mouse in the academy-even when you were wielding a blaster. But that hardly mattered when you were one of the top tacticians in the army and the Jedi were very kind to you. Especially General Plo Koon. He was incredibly patient with you as you adjusted to life with the 104th after being transferred from the 205th and he gave off this very warm and loving vibe.
And thankfully your new general was among the Jedi present-calmly looking at you with hands clasped behind his back, respectfully silent as the other masters muttered over the maps you’d provided. You met his eyes uncertainly. While it wasn’t like this was your first time pitching a new tactic to a general it was the first time you’d ever pitched an idea to so many people (eight, to be exact) that were so high ranking. The room was currently occupied by yourself, Depa Billaba, Obi Wan Kenobi, Cody, Anakin, Ahsoka, Rex, Commander Wolffe, and Plo Koon and while none of them were ever rude to you it was hard to not be intimidated. You weren’t the one that had to go through with this plan-they did. They were the ones in danger. Sure, you could lose your job but they could lose their lives. So, you looked to Plo Koon as he would be sure to tell you what he thought.
Perhaps he was so open with you because he could read you better than anyone else? He always knew what you were thinking and knew exactly what to say to help you. If you were honest, it was no wonder why you two were fast friends. And it wasn’t a surprise when you realized that certain feelings had crept up on you. Although you had resigned yourself to never act on them for both of your sakes there was no helping the admiration that prompted you to value the Kel Dor’s opinion over anyone else’s. And just like so many times before, it seemed like Plo knew this for he offered a single nod to you when your eyes met. The tension fled from your shoulders instantly as a silent sigh of relief slipped from you. Plo Koon approved. You had done good. He knew how hard you had worked on the new plans and could cite several instances where he had stumbled upon you slumped over your desk as the testimony to your dedication. Each time the Kel Dor quietly lifted you to your feet and encouraged you to leave the work for the next day as he escorted you back to your quarters. Once the two of you got there, he’d always, always place a secure hand on your shoulder with a squeeze that just barely made his talons dig into your greys as he bid you goodnight before sweeping away with one last order to get some sleep tossed over his shoulder. It was similar small gestures like those that gave you hope that were your situations different-he being a normal citizen like you and not a Jedi with no trace of war-that maybe something could happen. But alas…
“I must say, Major, I do believe you’ve outdone yourself.” Kenobi was the first among the Jedi to speak with one hand clasping his chin and the other clasping his elbow in typical Obi Wan fashion as he scanned over the details once more.
You dipped your head with a carefully practiced, “thank you, General” as your immediate reply though deep inside, your pride swelled. This was possibly your most ambitious plan yet and one that had presented significant challenges. While you were a good tactician, your strong suits lie in terrestrial combat and not space. It felt great to be validated.
“Yes but…” Depa Billaba began with her arms dutifully crossed over her chest as she scrutinized further, “what are we to do about this asteroid field that cuts through our path?” The Jedi asked calmly and you brightened at the mention of it because you had banged your head against it every which way. The asteroid field was the one thing you couldn’t accurately account for as the data you had received on it initially had been outdated. And you explained as much to her.
“However, I am happy to tell you that I may have found a way to...acount for this hazard.” You cleared your throat and leaned over the console to zoom in on the area in question. “This asteroid field is large, messy, and problematic, and had you asked me how to avoid it earlier I wouldn’t have had an answer. But, I think that the best course of action is to separate-to make it look as though the three of you-” you pointed to the generals you were specifying, “are escorting Depa Billaba till she comes in range with the nearby medical station. That way if any Separatists follow you, you can still maintain the element of surprise because I know that if we can make General Billaba’s starship appear vulnerable that they will go for it. Worst case scenario, you dust off the guns a little preemptively. Best case-” again, you clicked another button that revealed a dotted red path through the holo projection, “you can use the asteroids as extra cover while you navigate through this path.” You paused a moment, eyes shifting to gauge the reactions of everyone. From across the table, your eyes met with Commander Wolffe’s who raised an eyebrow at you. “Clone intelligence has informed me that this path might be outdated as well but we will be active on the comms to offer guidance through the field as you go.” Commander Wolffe gave a firm nod and, again, the Jedi and clones retreated inwards to try and think of any situations that they would need to be prepared for. In the weighted silence that followed, you were keenly aware of Plo Koon drawing closer to you as he methodically circled the console before you. His hands remained clasped behind his back the entire time and you couldn’t help but watch him as he approached.
He came to a stop right next to you-close enough for your arms to brush and for his warmth to seep through the fabric of your greys. Plo Koon remained quiet for a little longer, leaving you more time to fight the instinct that told you to lean closer to him before he moved his arms. His taloned hand brushed the back of your own and his vambrace bumped your forearm as he brought his arms up to cross over his torso. You couldn’t help but dwell on the feeling of even that minuscule contact which almost caused you to miss the compliment he paid your way.
“Uh...th-thank you, General.” You coughed into your fist in a not so subtle way to correct your stutter. “But really, my plan is only good because my data was good. You should really thank your men that got me the information.”
The Kel Dor made a huffing sound that would have sounded like a laugh if not for the heavy overlay from his mask. “Believe me, Major, I will but you do deserve some of the credit.” He stressed, even going so far as to grasp your shoulder very briefly. You could still feel the imprint of his touch when he moved his hand away.
“Anakin, you’re being unusually quiet.” Obi Wan saved you from further implosion as he addressed his former padawan. You and Plo Koon both turned your attention back to the other occupants in the room and you were unsettled to find General Skywalker’s eyebrows furrowed in scrutiny as he glanced between you and the Jedi Master. Perhaps more alarming though was Wolffe’s face. He was staring at Plo Koon with what you could only describe as a bug-eyed look.
“Just thinking, master.” Skywalker eventually answered. Your jaw tensed in uncertainty though the younger man said nothing more regarding the visual dissection of your interaction.
The meeting continued for a few more minutes with you working to finalize the more minute details and to take measures to establish backup plans that would most likely be abandoned by the Jedi at the first sign of conflict and the Jedi began to disperse with their own CO’s. Eventually, that left just you, Wolffe, and Plo Koon. At the first sign that the meeting was adjourned, you began to pack your things up and to log off the computers but instead of leaving you to your own devices like you thought he would, Plo Koon remained with you. He casually waited at the console you had left him at with his hands clasped before his diaphragm, a common gesture for him you’d noticed, while Wolffe awkwardly hovered near the door.
“Was there anything else you needed, General?” You asked, glancing over your shoulder at the Kel Dor. He stood up straight and approached with light footsteps.
“Not particularly, Major, but I would like to congratulate you once again on another excellently thought out plan.” Plo Koon’s voice was as calm as it ever was but there was something there-a slight lilt you weren’t familiar with or maybe it was better described as a squeak? Slowly spinning on your heel, you turned to face him.
“Well,...thank you, General. It...It’s my job.” A part of you swore at your inability to take a compliment properly while the other parts were all focused on Plo Koon. Sure, he’d complimented you on your plans before (he did during the meeting) but he had always reserved the more serious praise for after the missions and the debriefings. He’d never stayed after the preliminary meetings.
“If you don’t mind, I’d prefer if you called me Plo Koon-it feels far too impersonal to be addressed as ‘general’ outside of meetings.” The Kel Dor explained with a raised hand to stop you from saying anything else till he had said his piece.
You blinked. Once. Twice. Before eventually sliding your gaze over to Wolffe who had a hand clasped over his eyes. That gesture only added kindling to the confused fire as you returned to the man in front of you. There didn’t seem to be anything amiss-his mask looked in place and to your knowledge, he hadn’t been in the medbay recently. “As...whatever you wish...Plo.” You swallowed, his name-something you’d said in your head thousands of times before-felt foreign on your tongue. “You can of course call me ‘Y/n’...then.” You offered uncertainly.
“Of course,” he echoed with a nod. “I’ve always thought your name fitting.”
“Thank you…?” You asked uncertainly.
“I just mean that it is a strong name and you bear it well.”
“...” Again, you couldn’t help but look over at Wolffe who had taken his face in his hands in what could only be described as a picture of absolute mortification. His helmet was awkwardly squished into his chest as he shook his head from side to side, lips moving as he formed words you couldn’t hear from where you stood. “I...uh...I like your name too, Plo. It’s gentle…?” You tried as you returned your attention to the Kel Dor and raised one shoulder in a half-shrug.
He brightened, back straightening up as he continued to regard you. “Thank you, I’m rather fond of it myself.” A silence fell over the two of you-horribly tense and laced with an awkward air you had no way of dissipating anytime soon. Averting your eyes from the Jedi, you rolled your lips in and bit them as you fished for something else to say.
“Is...are you sure there wasn’t anything you needed, General?” You finally asked after shifting on your feet for the third time.
Plo Koon shook his head, less in a form of denial and more like he was trying to shake himself out of a stupor before answering. “I’m positive but while we’re on the subject of names I feel it is important for me to inform you of the new one circulating amongst my men.”
You raised your eyebrow at the Jedi, not missing the way Wolffe froze entirely. “A new name for me or…?”
“For you.” Plo nodded. “It seems as though they’ve taken a liking to calling you ‘Major Buir’.” There was something in his voice that told you he was smiling (or the Kel Dor equivalent of smiling) beneath his anti-ox mask.
“Buir?” You questioned as your mind raced to dig up a definition for the Mando’a word you’d heard assigned to the Jedi on multiple occasions. “As in what the Wolfpack calls you?”
“Indeed. Are you familiar with Mando’a?”
“After fighting alongside the clones?-of course, but I’m afraid most of the terms I know relate to fighting, tactics, or swearing.” You explained promptly with a glance to Wolffe at the mention of his language-the clone in question looked frozen in his spot and it seemed like he was no longer alone as you could swear you saw the familiar red hair of Boost and the silver of Sinker ducking behind the doorway.
Plo Koon suddenly leaned forward, getting closer to your height as his voice dropped to just above a whisper. “Buir is Mando’a for ‘parent’, Y/n.” Immediately, it felt as though someone had locked you in carbonite-your heart was still warm as it surged with affection for the men of the 104th yet at the same time your body felt the familiar frozen tingle that so often accompanied the sensation of treading through uncharted territory. You were keenly aware of Plo Koon’s proximity and the way your heart sped as a result. In an attempt to combat this you took a deep breath to steady yourself and regain control over your vocal chords. But that was a mistake as Plo’s natural scent infiltrated your senses. He smelled of leather and fresh air, of tea tree and some other piquant scent you couldn’t name that you knew was the remnant of one of the contraband candles he had hidden aboard the ship. It was so him-something the standard issue GAR soap couldn’t hide-that it overwhelmed you in an instant and you found yourself leaning closer. He, a flame, and you, a moth.
Your lips parted slightly as your face relaxed and you swore that you’d never felt calmer. It felt like someone was wrapping you in a hug; you felt safe, wanted, and adored. “But...if they call you that and are now calling me that…” you began through the sudden dwam your mind floated in. The pieces were starting to fall into place. “Then...General Plo Koon,” your voice suddenly became firm as you forced yourself to step back, “Are you trying to flirt with me?”
Plo Koon straightened up, his hands finding their usual resting place crossed in front of his stomach. “I am. Was it not obvious?” He asked, his held tilting to the left just slightly.
You briefly thought back to the somewhat strange string of compliments he’d paid you that lead up to this. “Uh...no, not really.” You explained quickly, eyes now flickering around the room in an attempt to come up with a reply to this revelation.
“Hmm.” Plo Koon hummed. “My apologies then. Boost encouraged me to be forward-perhaps it was not enough?” You blinked up at him, gaping like a fish-if that was Plo being forward then you wouldn’t have stood a chance if he had taken a subtle route.
Before you could say anything though, Wolffe’s explosive voice cut through the briefing room as he rounded on Boost. “You told him to do what?!” The commander barked at his red-headed brother who had long since abandoned hiding behind the doorway and was now standing tall with his chest slightly puffed.
“Oh come on, Vod, we both know the General likes ‘em! And Major Buir wasn’t going to pick up on it anytime soon. I was just trying to help!” He huffed back, practically getting in Wolffe’s face.
“Meddling isn’t helping, Boost!”
“I dunno-seemed pretty effective, Commander.” Sinker chimed in.
Wolffe wheeled on him next. “Don’t tell me you were in on this too!” The one-eyed clone seethed. “If you weren’t my brother I’d-”
“Boys!” You snapped, having heard enough. The three brothers stopped immediately and turned to you; each one bore a similarly sheepish grin. With a shake of your head, you turned back to Plo who had watched on in amusement. “Plo, I’m flattered but...what about your code? I know attachments are dangerous and I wouldn’t want to be the reason you-”
The Jedi master raised a hand. “My dear, attachments aren’t dangerous. It is how they can be used against a Jedi that is.”
“I don’t follow.” You tried only for Plo to shake his head.
“Yes, you do.” The Kel Dor dropped to your height again. “Y/n, if attachments themselves were dangerous Jedi would also be forbidden from being compassionate.” You were stricken silent, painfully aware of the three pairs of eyes currently fixated on the two of you. “But even if they were, I’d still find you worth the risk.” Your heart melted, a soft ‘Plo’ slipping past your lips that made the Kel Dor incline his head. “I know you care for me too, Y/n, so...are you willing to be with me?”
You bit your lip in thought, a smile creeping across your face as you looked up at the Jedi. “I’m guessing there’s no talking you out of this?”
“You may try but my feelings will persist.” Plo countered immediately-a lightness to his voice you hadn’t heard before.
You chuckled briefly and let your gaze slide over to the three clones now curiously peering at the two of you. You took in their identical faces and the imploring looks each one was giving you. When had the Wolfpack wormed their way into your heart? Probably around the same time their general did. You turned back to Plo Koon. “I say...of course,” You smiled and slipped onto your toes to wrap your arms around the Kel Dor’s neck. He returned the embrace with a low hum, his arms slipping around your waist, “ner Jetti.” You could hear whooping and hollering from the entrance to the briefing room.
……………………………………………………..
The barracks were dark and crowded later that night-many of the men from the 104th had all crammed into one room to watch the holofilm you’d smuggled onto the starship. It had been about three weeks since the fateful meeting that led to the union of you and General Plo Koon and each day had brought a new development in your aliit as word of your relationship spread. For the most part, none of the men were surprised-some even commenting on how Plo Koon was apparently unable to tear his eyes off of you during meetings, holocalls, or your brief but frequent trips to the base on Coruscant. But there were a few who weren’t expecting it at all.
But everyone you’d told had been supportive. And now as you sat curled into Plo Koon’s side with clones draped all around you as most dozed off in the peaceful barracks you could safely say that you’d found where you belong.
A tug on your arm pulled you away from the nearly impossible to hear holofilm (the few soldiers that were still awake had turned the volume down so they could let their brothers sleep) and to the clone currently barely awake with his head on your lap. “What is it, Boost?” You asked in a whisper, keenly aware of the sleeping Sinker and Wolffe on Plo’s other side. Still, your voice managed to catch the Jedi’s attention as he turned his head towards the two you.
The red head stared up at you blearily, a yawn interrupting him before he began speaking. “I just wanted to say that I’m happy you and general buir are together now. And that I’m glad I could help.”
A breathy laugh escaped you that Plo helped quiet with a hand over your mouth. He dipped his head to gesture at Wolffe who grumbled and curled closer to Sinker in his sleep. In retaliation, you batted his hand away and rolled your eyes at the Kel Dor before looking back at the sleepy man. “I am too, Boost. Thank you.” You answered fondly, letting your head fall against Plo’s shoulder.
“Like I said-” he cut off to yawn, “happy to help...major...buir.” Boost trailed off as his eyes closed and he wormed his way closer to you.
You smiled. “Thank you, ner ad’ika.” As Boost officially fell victim to dream land you turned towards Plo who had watched the exchange carefully. The same feeling of being hugged, of being safe, wanted, and loved infiltrated your senses but you now recognized it as Plo’s signature. Still bearing that soft painted smile, you pressed your forehead to his. A final whisper of thank you slipped from you as you resigned yourself to stay in that moment forever.
beach please
pairing: rex / reader / cody
word count: 6166
summary: once the war ended, you retreated to scarif for much-needed time to recenter yourself. rex and cody worry when you don’t answer your comms for days and leave coruscant to find you, fearing the worst. turns out you’ve just been drinking and partying, now sporting two new tattoos.
a/n: the self-created duke of scarif is jimmy buffett & i was inspired by his song “margaritaville” & “beach please” by kevin fowler.
canon changes: everyone listened to fives abt the chips & palps was discovered to be a sith lord. the clones were given human rights, a generously low locked-in rent if they lived on coruscant, and as much back pay as the republic could afford (not much but better than nothing).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“master y/l/n, there’s still so much to be done-”
“and you can have someone else do it. you must not be capable of recognizing the importance of reevaluating the way we interpret the code, or else this conversation wouldn’t be occurring.”
obi-wan blanched at the barely tamed fury radiating from your force signature. this was the second time in less than a year that he felt something so raging from your force signature, the time before this meeting being the aftermath of umbara. before the nightmare that was the siege on the shadow planet, it had been decades since you were angry enough about something to raise your voice to the council. it took a very great transgression to ignite your anger into something scathing and this meeting was doing exactly that.
the council was meeting to discuss the senate’s plans to have the jedi spearhead efforts to repair the galaxy and quell the revolts in areas that still wanted to continue the war. palpatine was manipulating both sides and if it weren’t for fives and kix, the republic would have been none the wiser when chancellor palpatine executed the order to have the clones murder their jedi.
“how are we going to guide the galaxy through the changing times if we’re unable to reevaluate our own beliefs and how the war impacted them? so many of our padawans were raised in this war, far different than how they should have been brought up.” your mind drifted to ahsoka and late-night conversations spent trying to make sense of the reality of war and how she’d been nothing but a soldier since she left the temple at fourteen. “the senate is not our responsibility nor our lead authority. we were their pawns once and despite seeing the consequences on geonosis, we let ourselves get wrapped in politics. think of what we lost because of it.”
eeth koth was deeply disturbed by your entire demeanor as well as the words spilling from your lips. if there was ever a jedi that made you want to leave the order, he’d be it. douchebag. “our duty is to the galaxy, to maintain peace! you can’t expect us to sit back and do nothing when people are struggling!”
obi-wan shared your sentiment but strived for more unity than polarization within the meeting. “but aren’t we struggling just as much as the rest of the galaxy? time must be allotted for us to heal the wounds of war before we’ll be able to successfully help others that are suffering, if that’s what’s agreed upon.” a few jedi nodded their agreement, masters plo and gallia among them. shaak looks close to being convinced but seems to still be hesitant to comment on her opinion.
“in order to help the galaxy, we must help ourselves. our emotions must be looked into with more than just the intent to throw them away at a moment’s notice. knowing why we feel the things we do can help us with far more than just our connection to the force.”
this was an idea that obi-wan has spent many years struggling with but it took the end of the war to guide him into believing that emotions aren’t the enemy, it’s how they’re utilized that counts. he explained this concept to his fellow council members and it was a sentiment you agreed with immensely.
saese scoffs at the mere idea of doing more with emotions besides dispelling them into the force. “that sounds a lot like allowing your emotions to cloud your judgement, master kenobi, something your lineage is quite popular for-” oh he crossed the line. saese was not about to talk shit about your creche mate and closest friend or his lineage and get away with it.
“no need to pardon my language, master, but it sounds a lot like you’re allowing your own emotional shortcomings and the bantha fodder you call intelligence to cloud your judgement.”
even mace was stunned at the verbal jab that came from your seat. kit had been mid-drink and it took him several seconds to recover from the way he choked on his water. you were normally calm and collected, a voice of reason amid the chaos. this time, however, you were at your limit. this was your cue to leave.
mace spoke up as you neared the door. “y/l/n, where do you think you’re going?”
“i’m going to heal and allow myself to enjoy the peace we gave nearly everything to obtain. if you want to join me, feel free to let me know.”
your robes billowed out behind you as the council meeting dissolved into chaos. you were convinced that if your seat was close enough to master yoda’s that you’d be sporting a few new gimer stick bruises. thank the force for the little things.
later that evening, you boarded your personal ship and set the coordinates for scarif. that was the perfect place to go as a jedi that didn’t want to be found by anyone that they didn’t fully trust. who would think to find a monk on a planet filled with booze, sex, and other carnal pleasures? a few comms were sent telling the recipients that you were going on vacation and to call if you were needed, giving them a new private commlink and vague hints at where you’d be.
scarif, here i come.
Tumblr media
“she hasn’t commed us in nearly a week! what reason is there to not worry?”
“rex, she would have called us if there was something wrong.”
“you know as well as i do that there are still radical seppies trying to keep the war going. the kidnapping of a jedi would surely be cause to fight!”
cody sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose in exasperation. he conceded that you ignoring their comms was highly unusual, yes, but you weren’t the type to throw yourself heedlessly into danger like some of the other jetti they knew (cough cough, skywalker and kenobi). “no one in their right mind is going to think to look for a jedi on scarif, the place is too carefree and without a permanent stuck up its shebs.”
rex knew there was a valid point to the statement. he vaguely recollects general kenobi’s mild yet humorous complaints about the “uncivilized, booze-blooded” inhabitants of the beach planet. general skywalker’s only problem with scarif, it seems, was the fact there was sand nearly everywhere, the drunks and constant parties posing no issue to the younger jedi. the reason for his disdain of sand was never expanded upon.
“i’m still going to look for her, feel free to come with.” they were free men who had no one to report to, no one telling them where they could go or when to eat and sleep, so of course rex was going to look for you. with this newfound freedom cody and rex moved into a middle-level apartment together, nothing too fancy but quite a contrast to their former living spaces under the gar.
rex chose to join the police force on coruscant and quickly climbed the ranks, excelling in every task thrown at him. he was a force to be reckoned with, crime rates dropping rapidly within his first month.
cody hasn’t made a new career choice yet, the commander still trying to find his own path. he had tried his hand on the police force but he quickly realized it wasn’t his cup of tea and left rex to it. he’s helping with groceries and other living costs with his back pay despite rex’s protests for him to put it to better use (what better use is there for credits than helping you survive day to day? that’s what they’re made for).
they were given a ship by general skywalker -anakin, rex’s mind supplied; he had corrected them many times about not using the rank- that the man had modified himself because he “wouldn’t want any friends of mine flying around the galaxy in a piece of junk.” apparently any sort of ship/speeder/droid/anything not built and/or modified by the man was inferior in nearly every imaginable way. it was a kind and meaningful gesture that anakin was willing to go to such lengths to protect them, no matter how unnecessary. the war was over after all, there was no need to have blaster attachments on their civilian speeder.
“like i’m gonna leave you to your own devices, di’kut. of course i’m going with.”
“you better hurry and pack, i’m planning on leaving no later than 1800.”
Tumblr media
sitting in the reclined beach chair with two margaritas, you haven’t enjoyed yourself this much in a long time. the togrutan brother and sister you met soon after your arrival had become dear friends in your two months on scarif, the three of you becoming a trio commonly seen hitting the best parties all over the planet. miek wasn’t as much of a party animal in comparison to his sister briel who was known for her wild drunken antics.
you had been there and lived in your small ship for a total of two days before they offered you a place with them. no one lived alone on scarif, they said, and it would be wrong to let you continue to be deprived of the peace the waters brought when it was lulling you to sleep.
meeting the duke of scarif during your first week planetside was quite an exhilarating experience, to put it briefly. duke buffett was an older man with hair as white as the sands he loved to party on day and night, one hand perpetually occupied by a drink and a guitar strapped to his back. he was known to play and sing during the parties he attended, his carefree attitude evident in his voice.
although no one would have guessed by looking at him, he was a fierce conservationist who would either have his guards fight anyone caught littering or, if drunk enough, would fight them himself. you’ve held him back a time or two when he clearly wasn’t in shape to do said fighting and helped ease the situation back to a fun normal.
now you weren’t a heavy drinker by any means, but your tolerance was better than most because of your connection to the force.  this made you a favorite drinking buddy to many of the planet’s permanent inhabitants and tourists. of these numbers was the duke himself whom you would sometimes humor by opening drinks with your lightsaber. it was a splendid game that won you diplomatic immunity (apparently he can do that) on the planet after two weeks of jedi party tricks and fight-preventing.
time had become even more of a social construct than you had believed it to be before the war. there were parties going on at all hours of the day and night and the concept of solitude was forgotten. everyone here extended a hand to each other, friend or not-yet friend (there were no strangers on scarif, just friends you haven’t made yet). what little pain felt was carried by all until it was so faint that it seemed to heal itself. the waters healed, you had no doubt in your mind.
the sun was high in the sky when the ship landed next to yours behind your current residence. you were, of course, not home to know where it landed but you did see said ship flying overhead as you relaxed on a blanket next to briel and miek. maybe they were lost, but you had confidence that someone on the island would help them in what they need. this was the way of scarif, after all.
you were distracted by the drinks in both of your hands, alternating sips between the two. you were outfitted in a flowy summer dress that had ridden up a smidge too high while you were lounging on a reclined beach chair. briel was rubbing - lotion? sunscreen? - something on your exposed thighs as you relaxed, enjoying the way the breeze felt on the moisturized skin.
this was the best decision you’ve ever made, coming to scarif. eventually you were going to leave, yeah, but that was a problem for future you. for now, you were going to enjoy the endless sunshine and copious amounts of alcohol that aided in your relaxation.
Tumblr media
they had seen the docking bay protruding into the sky like a gundark among loth-cats and decided instantly that you weren’t going to be there. you had told them ages ago that the vibes (you used that word a lot to describe force things to them) that came from industrial buildings bothered you terribly. something along the lines of wearing on your psyche, if they remembered correctly. instead, they flew a little lower than they probably should have to search the ground for where you landed your ship.
it took longer than they would have liked it to, but your ship was eventually found behind a medium-sized hut not too far from one of the many beaches. cody found just the right angle to land next to it and not hurt either shuttle, not trusting rex to touch the controls (his vod was a terrible pilot).
both men decided that even if scarif was a peaceful planet, they still didn’t know what to expect, so they equipped themselves with their blasters and lower armor before leaving their ship. first order of business: check to see if you were in your ship. if you weren’t, they could cross that bridge when they got there.
just as they were beginning to open the ramp, a man emerged from the hut and began to storm their way. he was togrutan, with yellow skin and lavender stripes on his lekku and montrals.
“hey! you two! what’s your business with that shuttle?” he sounded like he was ready to fight them about the ship, which worried the brothers, but he slowed his advance when he noticed the two blasters pointed in his direction. good, this guy wasn’t a complete di’kut.
cody was the first to lower his weapon, quick to take the diplomatic approach. rex followed suit but didn’t soften the intimidating stare he threw at the man. there was a reason your ship was there and they were going to stop at nothing to find out why. “we’re looking for a friend of ours, she hasn’t answered our comms in over a week and we were worried, it isn’t like her to not reply. last we talked to her she was here on scarif.”
the togrutan paused for a moment, inspecting the appearances of the men (clones, his mind told him, the telltale armor and near identical faces hiding nothing) in front of him.
the blond had an air of confidence about him, an almost dangerous sort of confidence. his armor was painted with a shade of blue that was pleasantly similar to the waters he just returned from, pieces of it chipped from what he supposed were rough times in battle. his jaw was set, hand hovering above where he holstered his weapon seconds before.
he didn’t appear to be bloodthirsty, just protective; who he wanted to protect, however, was still a mystery. there was a passion in his eyes that wasn’t even mildly held back. he seemed to be skilled in channeling that passion into his every thought, every action. with a note to himself to not get on this man’s bad side, he switched his focus on the blond’s companion.
miek’s gaze shifted to the other clone and quickly decided that he liked this one better. there was an extremely intimidating scar along the side of his face, yet this one seemed far less willing to shoot him on sight. he still has a grit and presence about him that told miek that this one wouldn’t hesitate to fuck your shit up if need be, but he had tact (thank the stars one of the clones had a sense of discretion).
he could tell that this one had some sort of authority over the blond, clearly serving as a high percentage of the other’s common sense. miek’s mind, after analyzing the men thoroughly, gives names for the men before they introduce themselves. “you must be the famed rex and cody! come, i’ll take you to the shoreline!”
he gestured for them to follow him and was genuinely shocked when instead of doing as he suggested, he was tackled to the ground. miek spit away everything that had gotten into his mouth, unable to move when one of the men pinned him down. this was officially miek’s worst day in over a decade.
he caught a glimpse of marigold stripes on leg armor just over his shoulder, confirming the identity of the man on top of him as rex. “how do you know our names?!” rex’s voice sent a shiver down miek’s spine (the blaster against his back also helped in that), and the togrutan reaffirmed his choice in his favorite clone: not rex.
“i’ve heard stories about you two! from y/n! i’m assuming you’re here about y/n, right?” the blaster was removed from his back and a little bit of the weight was taken off him. he must be saying something right. “she’s been staying with my sister and i, and i promise you she’s perfectly safe!” rex moves his weight completely off him now, allowing miek to stand back up but not move more than a few feet away from him.
“where is she?” cody’s voice was hauntingly low, nothing about him betraying his tension except for the hard glare felt like lasers. he had the same desire, same yearning to protect someone - that someone miek now knew was you - and it burned brighter than a hundred suns.
“last i saw her was thirty minutes ago on the shore with briel, my sister. i can take you to them if you would kindly not threaten to shoot me again. my name is miek, and i would say it was a pleasure to meet you both but then i’d be making myself a liar.” he had no idea where that bit of snark at the end came from but it seemed to sway the clones to his favor. why it did, he had no clue, but at least he wasn’t getting shot.
they walked silently for a few minutes, the two troopers beginning to slightly admire the view while keeping eyes on miek. it was a beautiful planet, there was no denying that. you were surely enjoying yourself in the sunshine, always finding a little bit of time to bask in the nature of whatever planet you ended up on during the war.
it was strange to cody, not feeling eyes on him as he walked with rex on the beach. when he would accompany general ke- obi-wan on trips to the temple or into the streets of coruscant, he constantly felt the eyes of many on him. they would be expressing curiosity, shock, disdain, or something in between, and cody could feel every bit of it. here, it seemed, no one cared that he was a clone. no one was leering at him for walking too close to them or for just breathing the same air as them. cody was blissfully able to blend with the people here and he loved it.
he was so caught up in his thoughts that he didn’t notice when miek had come to a stop in front of a small cluster of reclinable chairs. a large umbrella provided the area with a patch of shade and a smidge of reprieve from the sun’s blistering heat.
“see? she’s perfectly fine.” miek’s voice broke their precious silence. “i’m assuming you both can find your own way back to your ship, so i’ll be headed off.” miek left them quite quickly and rex guessed (with a bit more amusement than was warranted) that it was because he nearly shot the man on more than one occasion minutes earlier.
“cody! rex! when did you two get here?”
a familiar voice drew their attention and it took them a second longer than it should have for them to realize that yes, you were the one lounging in front of them as if it’s all you’ve ever done in your life. you were extremely relaxed and your posture conveyed your state perfectly, two margaritas perched in loose hands, both half-empty. an ivory summer dress flowed loosely around you, the front hiked a bit too high for the men to keep their imaginations under control. that wasn’t even acknowledging the neckline of your dress (or lack thereof) that made their throats a bit dry and minds slip into the gutter.
rex and cody cleared their heads after indulging the images for a second, the latter clearing his throat before replying, “just a few minutes ago. you haven’t answered our comms in over a week. rex had the idea to come and visit to see how you were doing, so here we are.”
that was really sweet of them to check up on you, you thought with a smile. you felt a bit guilty about not answering their comms. normally you were careful to reply to theirs and every other message you received soon after getting it, but as stated earlier, time has become a social construct that didn’t really matter while on scarif. you gestured for them to sit, and they took the open chair to your left. they didn’t bother laying back, just sitting shoulder to shoulder in the same chair with their eyes on you.
offering them both half-drank margaritas was a subconscious action on your part that surprised you. what shocked you even more was the fact they accepted the drinks with soft, fond smiles. kriff you missed them, how you’ve been able to go this long without seeing them was beyond you.
you smiled warmly as you introduced your boys to briel, who was smirking a bit too widely than would be deemed safe (you didn’t notice this, seeing as you were too busy drinking in the sight of your boys and the way the sunlight made their eyes glow). her eyes drifted to your thighs as she put in very little effort to hide a laugh. dark clone trooper eyes decided to see what was so amusing to the togruta, and they choked on whatever words they were contemplating.
on your thighs were rex and cody, left and right respectively. or, more accurately, on your thighs were six-inch tattoos of rex and cody.
both men were in quite show-offy poses, appearing to have the intent to make them look like pin-ups. the lower half of their armor was equipped but they were shirtless, faint details of scars and sweat appearing to glisten in imaginary sunlight.
cody’s face was set in a smolder the likes of which would send half the women in the galaxy into puddles at the commander’s feet. his dc-15a was held aloft in his right hand while his left arm was holding his helmet in place in the crook of his hip. his left foot was stepping on a small heap of droids which brought his knee up a bit, and he was facing the inked rex on the opposite thigh.
rex’s wild smile could catch the soggiest piece of kindling alight with the allure and charm it held. his eyes were sparkling with a pleasant mirth not often seen in the man. both hands wielded his trusted dc-17’s, the right blaster pointed at the droids under cody’s foot while the left was pointed in the air, blaster bolts coming out of both. his helmet was under his right foot, jaig eyes almost peering into your soul and welding marks visible from his customization of the phase 2 helmet.
commander and captain are both beginning to flush at the art in front of them. they were flattered to see drawings of themselves look so dashing, and seeing it on your body roused feelings they had spent years repressing. their biggest question now was whether their likenesses on your body translated into something more on your end.
“nice to finally meet my friend’s muses,” briel quips, “it’s hard to get her to talk about something that isn’t you two when she’s plastered.” she pauses a moment, thinking of her next words and chuckling to herself. “she’s barely spent three consecutive days completely sober since she got here, which means that you two are almost all she talks about.”
this deepened the heat in their cheeks as you playfully swatted at briel’s shoulder. “that is not true!” a moment of silence. “wait, what day is it? that miiiight make a difference.”
rex chortles at the admission. “glad to see you enjoying yourself, cyare. but kix would be enraged to hear that you’ve been drinking nearly every day for two months, and we can’t exactly blame him.” he grinned as he took an experimental sip of the drink you gave him. it was stronger than he expected, but it had an underlying sweetness not often found in margaritas. he liked it.
sitting up, your dress covered your ink as you expertly drank from the margarita in cody’s hand while he still held it. the commander sent you a soft glare, wondering why you didn’t just get a new drink but enjoying the moment nonetheless. “kix shmix, his face isn’t on my thigh so i don’t really care what he has to say right now.” you lean toward cody and rex before whispering, “you didn’t bring him, did you?”
all three of them guffawed at the question, you joining their laughter solely because of how happy the joy radiating from your boys’ force signatures made you.
calling them your boys had become second nature after mere months of fighting beside them. you spent an inane amount of time with them during planning and actual combat, and were just as much their general as their actual generals were (despite you not carrying the honorific). any free time was spent with one or the other if available, but if they were both occupied you would make your way toward the barracks and join a few games of sabacc.
there were nights you’d spend in the barracks with either battalion (depends on which group you were assigned to at the time) and be welcomed there as if you were a fellow clone. they taught you to play sabacc and you enjoyed playing with them despite the fact you had the most rotten luck with the game.
winning didn’t carry any weight when you were able to spend time with rex and cody, shamelessly basking in the way they always seemed to have some sort of physical contact with you every moment possible. when rex and/or cody returned from whatever responsibilities held them earlier, the men were quick to relinquish them a seat next to you with a sly grin.
their vode noticed the affection shared for the jedi on sabacc night number two and didn’t hesitate to spread word of it around to the rest of their battalions and beyond. on the nights you accompanied them on trips to 79’s, men under rex and cody both (read: fives and boil) made sure that the rest of their brothers and the occasional civvie knew that you three were off-limits to anyone but each other. you were their jetti & they were your captain and commander, no one would get between that even if it wasn’t decided among those in question.
“nah, he’s kept his head in his work. he just got his civvie medical license, started his own private practice on naboo.” rex was extremely happy for his brother, although it was strange to not see him nearly every day. it took a while before he was used to the lack of vode around him at all moments, but cody has been a massive help with that transition.
cody nodded before adding onto his brother’s statement. “and besides, we’re not that cruel, cyar’ika.” you grinned at the endearing tone, choosing that moment to snag another drink from the glass in cody’s hand. he swatted at your hand gently but didn’t put up a fight otherwise, just smiling at how carefree you’d become.
during their comms you did sound at peace, and the times where you’d appear via hologram to him your posture was less rigid than it was during wartime. scarif was good for you, cody knew this. the knowledge of your happiness, however, couldn’t prevent selfish thoughts from returning to the front of his mind. thoughts of you leaving scarif with him and rex, lighting up their apartment better than the sun with nothing but a smile were pipe dreams he indulged in when nightmares of war caught up to him.
“y’know,” you began, “no one would ever tell me what that word really meant.” the men froze, trying to play it off. they were saved only by the fact you kept talking. “none of the men ever gave me a straight answer, just saying that it was something you say to someone you trusted. i even asked duchess satine about it when i was on mandalore. she asked who was using the word and when i told her it was you two, she just grinned like a tooka with a rat tail hanging from its mouth.”
duchess satine was most definitely going to be receiving a gift in the near future.
briel chose that moment to speak for the first time in a while, crossing her arms behind her head. “i’ve never been to mandalore nor heard a lick of what i’m guessing is its native language, but you’d have to be a fool to not guess its meaning by now.” her words were directed at you but they made the men sputter.
“what is that supposed to mean, brie?”
“seriously? please tell me you’re kidding.”
briel was absolutely incredulous. how could a member of the highly revered jedi order, known for the wisdom of its members, not read between the lines? they were giving her plenty to work with in terms of evidence of their affections that they weren’t hiding very well, how did you not know?!
silence followed her words and she came to the startling realization that you were, in fact, not kidding. “look at them, these two adore you! they followed you here like stray tookas when you didn’t comm them enough.” the men didn’t even bother looking offended as they were called out by the togruta. they were scared you’d be disgruntled at the blatant show of care for you but briel wasn’t done. “sithspit y/n, you got tattoos of them because you said you missed them so much!”
hold on, rewind, what did she just say?!
“you… missed us?” rex’s voice was softer than anyone had heard it be in a long time. part of him aches to throw his drink over his shoulder and take you into his arms with no regard to the outside world, yet he restrains himself. this could very well be a trap, an illusion or extremely detailed dream the likes of which he’s never experienced.
then again, how would that explain his mind creating a taste for something he’s never had before?
he concluded that this was indeed real, and he very well could do exactly as his heart desires if he let go for just a moment, just long enough for the contents of his glass to seep into the sand and his calloused hands to roam your exposed skin.
but he also remembers long talks with his ori’vod about their mutual affections for you. how selfish and uncaring it would be for him to try and keep you to himself after spending so many nights lamenting with cody about the way you made them both feel more human. the way you tethered them to sanity when the war threatened to dispose of what little control they had over themselves or their fates, the softness of your fingers intertwined with theirs whenever you had the chance. both men would contemplate the way you’d taste as you downed several shots at 79’s or cups of the contraband moonshine brewed by the men, wondering how much would be the alcohol and how much would be you and wishing that they could find out.
it would be a betrayal far greater and even more despicable than that of palpatine and the republic, and rex didn’t think he could handle losing the respect of his ori’vod no matter what was given in return. not even you.
the togruta woman officially lost the last speck of patience she held for the clueless, lovesick trio, groaning that she gave up as she left them to their own devices.
you were confused. why would you not miss them? did those years of fighting next to them and caring about them and loving them not translate to the idea of missing them when they were gone? yeah you were a little tipsy when you got your tattoos, but that didn’t change the facts as to why you got them: you wanted cody and rex by your side and moments spent without them were moments spent unhappy. they were your boys, the two reasons you kept fighting in that cursed war instead of returning to the temple with your tail between your legs at the first sign of combat.
cody downed his margarita with a solid gulp before taking your right hand in both of his, face twisted almost identically to his brother’s while processing the information you presented. he marveled in the familiar grooves and calluses from battle that were beginning to soften, thoroughly enjoying the fact he didn’t have to hide anything from you or the rest of the galaxy about the love - cody was sure now that this was indeed love - he held for you and you alone.
“is that true, cyar’ika?” cody’s voice was sickeningly hopeful. he’s never allowed himself to hope, knowing that diving too deep into desire could lead to consequences tantamount to death. hearing you stumble over your words as you admitted to loving him, loving him and rex both in the same capacity, cracked the last mask of stoicism he had in his reserves. his mouth was smiling but his eyes were wet, and anyone who didn’t know him would think the man was karking mad.
you weren’t as focused on your boys as you would have been any other moment, too busy trying to figure out what you said for cody to ask about and oh. holy shit, i said all of that out loud. then, a brief moment of clarity. i said every bit of that, but they’re not leaving. they’re instead moving closer, taking my hands in theirs and then- “have i ever lied to either of you?” your heart once again overpowered your brain, taking over your vocal chords and bringing voice to your thoughts.
rex nestled his glass into the sand before going to his knees in front of you, eyes sparkling from both the scarif sun and unshed tears. “you could never, ner’jetti.” he rested his chin on your knee not blocked by cody, his subconscious deciding to nuzzle his head into the hand that had come up to his face.
within seconds, the clunky armor had taken to the sand. they didn’t startle at the sudden exposure to just their bottom blacks because they could feel the soft humming of the force around them, knowing that it was merely you making them more comfortable. you were pulling them toward you and into your reclined chair, rex’s chin in one hand and cody’s hands in the other. they were quick to take a hint, immediately moving to either side of you to lay on their sides, facing their jetti with soft smiles.
rex made quick work of wrapping an arm around your waist, face burying itself into the crook of your neck as best he could. he inhaled your scent, the familiar ozone that came with the force mingling wonderfully with scarif’s ocean water and the tropical drinks you’ve been keeping yourself busy with.
cody tangled one hand into your hair, fingers softly moving as he rested his other arm slightly above his brother’s. the hand touching your waist softly stroked your side as he let his eyes drift closed, the force wrapped around him like a blanket of protection.
no one spoke of love in the hours you spent wrapped in each other’s arms in that uncomfortable-for-three-people chair. the admissions and conveyance of all the love held between the three of you was saved for the privacy of their ship. cody and rex worshiped you and you did the same for them, no one allowing there to be a single doubt as to where your hearts belong.
Inevitable
Leah! Congrats on your follower milestone! 🥳💕 May I request 5. a gentle “i love you” whispered after a soft kiss, followed immediately by a stronger kiss for Anakin Skywalker? Thank you, love! 🥰
A/N: Hey! This is my first time writing for Anakin, I tried to make him not as whiny as he is in the movies, so I ran with tcw! *cough* this is also my longest one somehow *cough*  So spoiler alert! It does have references and is set in the Zygerria arc in tcw, just a heads up, though it makes sense still if you haven’t seen the arc. Also fair warning, if you want it to stay fluffy at the very end, I recommend you don’t read the final paragraph. Anyway, enjoy :D
Want to Request? See Here.
Inevitable
Prompt: #5 - a gentle “i love you” whispered after a soft kiss, followed immediately by a stronger kiss
Word Count: 1.9k Pairing: Anakin x Jedi!Reader  Warnings: slavery, torture, hint of depression Description: Post-Zygerria, you contemplate your feelings for Anakin.
It hadn’t gone well to say the least. Mind, it was rare that this type of thing went well. It was supposed to just be a trip to check on the Togrutans. Naturally, you had walked onto Kiros expecting a fight, after all, the last thing the Jedi had heard from them, a separatist fleet had entered the atmosphere. But this was by far the worst thing you’d ever gotten yourself into.
Kiros itself was a beautiful planet. The art and architecture was something to marvel at, and the landscape was vastly different to the cold grey of Coruscant. You found yourself hoping that one day you’d be able to holiday there, it was nice climate, there hadn’t been any traces of the war due to their neutrality until recently. The lack of habitants however was quite frankly disturbing.
Between Anakin, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, the troopers and yourself, you all had made quick work of the droids. When you received word that the Zygerrians had a part to play in all of this, Obi-Wan went to meet up with the separatist leader, you stayed behind to comfort Anakin. Said Anakin was currently sitting in front of a speeder, looking highly volatile. The best way to approach Anakin when he was in such a mood was with quiet and a steady hand, so you started by placing a hand on his shoulder.
“Ani? Are you ok?” While he didn’t turn to look at you, his hands did stop fiddling with the machinery. He exhaled heavily through his nose and went back to modifying the speeder.
“Yeah. I’m fine.” You sat down next to him, and snatched the wrench out of his hands, which prompted a noise of protest as he turned to glare at you.
“See you say that, but there’s this thing called a ‘facial expression’ which says otherwise.” Using the force to snatch the wrench back, he went back to using the wrench. “Ani, you know you can talk to me right?” He sighed and stopped once more.
“Yeah, I know,” you reached over, and took one of his hands in yours, “this is just digging up some memories I’d rather not think about.” He twisted his hand over, so that his fingers locked in yours, and squeezed gently.
“I’m really sorry that you went through that, Ani, truly I am. I can’t even begin to imagine what it was like,” you paused and took a breath, “but what I do know, is that you’re one of the strongest people I know, and I know that because of that you’ll move past this.” Though not seeming totally happy, one of the corners of his mouth pulled a little, he shook his head and looked directly into your eyes before they flicked to your hands.
“Honestly, what would I ever do without you?” The jedi in you wanted to recite the code, say that he would be perfectly fine without you, that he’d have to find a way to move on and accept it, say that he shouldn’t be saying such things. But the utterly human part of you felt overly fuzzy, and affection reared its head in your stomach. Ignoring the trepidation, you smiled back at him.
“Probably something stupid, or make more poor decisions.” He snorted out an airy laugh and squeezed your hand a little tighter. The moment didn’t last however, as the tone of a comm rang out from his wrist from Obi-Wan.
That was what led you to Zygerria, attempting to find the Togrutans. With quick assurances and a look that seemed to be forlorn, you and Anakin separated. He went with Ahsoka to find the Queen, while you, Obi-Wan and Rex went on the hunt for the missing people. You should have listened to the awful, rotting feeling in your stomach, then maybe, you all wouldn’t have been taken.
As a jedi, you relished in the feeling of freedom. With a connection to the force, you could feel everything around you, feel the flow of energy between all if you will. It made you feel light, like a small breeze could carry you away, like every breath of fresh was your first. Down here, that was all taken away from you. The walls combined with the heat made you suddenly feel claustrophobic and the collar around your neck weighed you down. Between you and Obi-Wan, it normally would’ve been easy to break out. A tiny twitch of a finger, and the collar would be crushed. A swipe of the hand would smack the guards into a wall. Then you’d both be able to grab Rex and go. If Anakin were here, maybe you’d be able to achieve that.
It wasn’t a normal situation however.
There were others involved. If either of you even threatened to do something, they would torture a civilian, possibly even drive them to death. In your current state, you wouldn’t be able to take out the sheer number of guards quick enough before lives would be lost. They had realised that there was little in the way of physical torture that would cause a jedi to break. This, however, felt hopeless. Your hands were tied. You were hungry, exhausted, and felt overwhelmed with the sadness that practically poured out of their force signatures.
When the slaver was finally dead, you couldn’t help the sense of sick satisfaction that came with it. He deserved to die for what he did, and the subtle brush of a force signature told you Obi-Wan felt similarly. Despite being able to breathe without a collar for the first time in days, your lungs couldn’t seem to get any air, and your knees were aching, and your back was pounding with angry pain. Vaguely you remembered your knees slamming the ground and Obi-Wan kneeling near your head and calling your name.
Out of habit from the past few days, you woke up abruptly, although things were different. You started hyperventilating, and suddenly the world felt too small again. No matter what was actually happening, you couldn’t see anything except the dirty halls of the mine, the faces of the Togrutans who were tortured because you couldn’t keep your mouth shut. And then blue eyes. There was a hand stroking your hair, and another trying to get you to keeping looking into the eyes. And then a whisper. It wasn’t loud, but it was comforting, soft. The words steadily became clearer and you finally noticed your surroundings. For one, instead of the smell of coal and grime, it smelt like a forest on Naboo. Instead of a metal bench, there was a mattress and a soft blanket covering your legs. The light was low, but you could see the glow of hyperspace speeding past. And Anakin.
The glow was luminating his face, which looked both soft and concentrated. You could see the shadows under his eyes that you likely mirrored. As he stopped speaking, the foggy feeling lifted, and you realised that he had been trying to force suggest you to calm down. Now that your breathing had returned to some semblance of normal, his hand moved from your face, though he didn’t stop stroking your hair.
“Are you ok?” You took a deep breath to steady yourself.
“Yeah. Yeah I think I’m ok.” It was silent for a minute before Anakin moved to sit in front of you on the bed. You sat with your back up against the wall with a pillow wedged between and your legs crossed. The meaning of the silence was clear. “I just – I don’t think that I want to talk about it yet.” You turned your head to your lap, and watched as he placed his much larger hands over your own.
“It’s okay, I understand the feeling.” The silence swept over you, the words got caught in your throat, choking you. Your eyes and throat seemed to burn. He only moved his thumb over your hand, acting as an anchor. He shoved your knee slightly, getting your attention.
“Y’know, as a wise jedi knight once told me, ‘you’re the strongest person I know, you’ll get through this’.” You laughed despite yourself, and Anakin’s hand beat yours to wiping the tears from your face.
“Thanks, Ani,” you sniffled, and you couldn’t help the warmth that flooded your cheeks when he didn’t move his hand.
“Of course, you know I’d do anything for you right? I was really worried when Obi-Wan had to carry you back here.” Your heart skipped a beat, and your stomach churned. If that wasn’t attachment, you don’t know what was.  You couldn’t bring yourself to point that out however. You knew that you’d do the same for him. You sighed.
“Anakin-I” you started, but you couldn’t seem to string together the words. Your heart raised in your throat, and he gave you a momentarily confused look. “You’re amazing, you know that? You-just-I- you always seem to ‘get’ me and I really appreciate that you’re always here for me and I-um” It was something that you’d never said before. You’d felt that way for him for the longest time, but you ignored it for the code. So instead of saying it, you closed your eyes, and pushed your signature out to brush his, hoping that it carried the years of longing, and the warmth that just looking at him brought you. And then a wave of the same feeling washed over you. It made your heart jump and you almost cried at the pure joy that came from him.
And then you could feel his breath on your face, and the most cautious of kisses. It was barely there, almost just a brush of the lips, but the feelings were all there. Foreheads pressed together, two hearts racing. Cautious, because of the code, because you both knew what could happen it you strayed, because of all the secrets that would have to exist. A whisper, like he was afraid that if he said it too loud, someone else might hear him, despite it just being the two of you.
“I love you.” Both your hands flew to his cheeks and pulled him closer again, and one of his drifted from your cheek to the back of your neck to hold you there. When you kissed this time, you threw caution to the wind. He kissed just as hard as you did, and stole your breath as he did.
When you pulled apart, the look you shared said everything. You smiled and breathed out a short laugh. To hell with the kriffing code.
“I love you too.”
                                                            <>
You supposed it was inevitable, you were the one he went to when he was mad at Obi-Wan, when he was so overwhelmed that he could barely think, when a mission hadn’t gone well and he needed to calm down. Therefore, this meant all the secret moments you were to share in the future were inevitable. You hadn’t even considered the possibility of what would happen in the future when you threw out caution. Was it inevitable that you were at least partly at fault for everything going to shit? Had that meant his fall was inevitable too?
When Cody went to 79’s – which was very little – he usually ended up in a shared booth with Wolffe, Rex, and Maverick. Each of the boys would spend time with their respective squad before eventually making their way to the back corner. It had the best view of the whole place and allowed them to keep eyes on their boys without hovering.
“You look jumpier than normal,” Rex commented, taking a sip from his beer.
“He’s waiting for the Commander,” Maverick replied, covering his chuckle with a cough at Cody’s glare.
Wolffe raised an eyebrow, “Yours?” At Maverick’s nod he continued, “She’s the one that stopped a civil war breakin’ out by teaching them how to make bread?” Cody tried to keep a smile off his face – he could picture the scene in his head. “She gave General Plo Koon a whole basket a’ baked goods the other day. Should’a seen her face when he said he can’t eat that kind a’ food.”
“She’s coming to 79’s, then? She’ll be recognized right away,” Rex said.
Maverick shrugged, “She doesn’t wear her robes much, plus the rest of my boys wouldn’t hesitate to start a fight if anyone gave her a hard time.”
Cody gave a quick nod in Maverick’s direction. He had grown comfortable with the Captain – the man had a good head on his shoulders and worked well with you – and Cody was glad to have the Juno Squadron looking out for you.
Cheers erupted from the bar, and Cody watched as several men crossed the room in the direction of the entrance. “Speak of the Jedi and they shall appear,” Wolffe leaned back into the booth.
Cody followed the moving figures until he saw your familiar form. You were wearing simple, black clothes – your robes gone, just like Maverick had said. He watched you glow, your smile shining so brightly he thought his chest might burst. You greeted the Juno boys, receiving hugs from Bailey and Ziggy. A drink was pushed into your hands by Flare, grin on his face. It took Cody a moment to realize that you were staring back at him. You broke the gaze momentarily to say something to Salem, who gave a nod in response.
“Aaaaand she’s coming over.” Rex clapped him on the shoulder, “I’m going to grab another drink.”
“Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do,” Wolffe smirked, leaving the booth with Rex.
You came strolling up a few seconds later, “Did I scare the party away?”
“It’s because you’re obviously intimidating,” Maverick answered, chuckling when you poked him in the side. “I’ll go make sure that Flare doesn’t start another fight.” He sent a wink at the two of you before heading to the center of the bar.
You slipped into the booth next to Cody, leg brushing his. “Hey,” you said softly, eyes catching his.
“Hi,” he murmured back. His heart leapt as you intertwined your hands underneath the table. You looked exhausted. “Everything alright?”
You nodded, swirling your drink in your hand, “Obi-Wan has had so many meetings with the Council recently. The Republic can’t seem to get anything done, but I can barely understand politics itself.”
“You’re stressed,” Cody offered. You hummed noncommittally, leaning your head on his shoulder. “You and Obi-Wan have more in common than differences I think.”
A snort escaped you, “Because we’re both stressed? There’s a war going on that I’m not sure we can win, there’s reason to be stressed.” You sighed, “Sorry.”
“There’s nothing to be sorry for.” He pressed his lips to your hair, relishing in the small content sound that left your lips.
“I just want us to be able to just talk about things other than what we deal with every day.” You pulled away from him, smiling, “Like what were you and the boys talking about earlier?”
“Besides the war?” You rolled your eyes, giving him a pointed look as you swiped his drink from his hand. “It was ‘clone-talk’.”
“Mhm, right.” He loved the little perturbed look on your face. Your nose scrunched and your lips formed a perfect pout that he had the urge to kiss off.
No, he hadn’t kissed you again. Not since that night at the gala a month ago. And Cody was pretty sure the tension was getting to him. Any moment he had alone with you was interrupted. Not that there were many opportunities to be alone with you at all. Cody prided himself on being a patient man, but when it came to you, it was all thrown to the wind.
“Maybe I’ll go ask Wolffe, I can bribe him with more pastries.” Cody knew your threat wasn’t real because you snuggled up closer to his side.
“We should get you back to your room before you fall asleep at the table.”
“But I want to spend time with you,” your voice was muffled by his shirt.
“C’mon Pip, I’ll walk you and that’s how we’ll spend time together.” You pulled back quickly, blinking at him. Your mouth was open in a small ‘o’. “What?”
“You’ve never called me that before.”
Oh. He hadn’t, had he? He had called you by your name, but never by the term of endearment that the Juno Squadron – and even General Skywalker and Commander Tano – called you.
He started to apologize, but you placed your hand over his lips, “You can say it. It’s nice. More than nice, actually.” You lowered your hand back into his. “Walk with me?”
He didn’t think he could ever say no to you.
-
“Ahsoka!”
Said Padawan yelped in surprise as you all but tackled her from behind. Laughter bubbled up between the both of you as she carried you on her back with ease. She let you down, ducking away before you could poke her in the side.
“I heard you’re heading to Ilum with the younglings?”
Ahsoka nodded, “Yep, we’re leaving in a few days. You and Master Kenobi are leaving tomorrow, right?”
“We think we’ve found a lead on Grievous,” you answered. “Which is the most good news Obi-Wan has had in a while with…Maul being back,” you had lowered your voice to a whisper.
“Anakin’s been a little weird too,” Ahsoka mumbled back.
“I’ve been a little what, Snips?”
The both of you turned to see Anakin exiting a room – which now made sense as to why Ahsoka was just lingering in the hallway – with an eyebrow raised and his arms crossed.
“She said that I am far better at Dejarik than you.” You sidled up to Anakin, nudging him with your shoulder.
Anakin snorted, “Right, I’m sure.”
“I beat Obi-Wan.” You blinked innocently.
“…you did?”
You gave Ahsoka a look, which made you both burst out into another round of laughter.
“Should I be worried you three are causing trouble?” Obi-Wan entered the hallway from the same room Anakin had been in.
“No, Master,” the three of you responded, similar grins on your faces.
-
You were pacing the small length of the escape pod, unaware of two pairs of eyes that were on you. Ahsoka had been kidnapped by pirates. You knew that she could take care of herself, but you cared for the other Padawan like she was your younger sister. But the younglings were stranded – alone – without help.
Which the two men watching you knew set you on edge.
Obi-Wan spoke up first, “We will go after her as soon as we are picked up.” You felt the calm that he was pushing in your direction, and you let it wash over you. You spared a glance at Cody, who still had his helmet on. As you finally sat down next to him, his gloved hand brushed against yours. It was his way of checking in, to let you know that he was there even though he couldn’t be more obvious about it since your older brother figure who was also his commanding officer was less than three feet away from you.
“Thank you, Master.” You sent a small smile toward the Jedi.
Obi-Wan was always wonderful to you. You remembered a little from when you were a youngling yourself. It was always when Master Qui-Gon would visit. Obi-Wan would join him at times and you liked it when he read to you.
It had surprised you when he had bumped into you – or you, into him – at the Jedi Archives just a few years ago. It had surprised you even greater when he had taken you on as his Padawan. You were grateful for reasons you could not even begin to explain to him. One of which was also in the escape pod with you. There were so many moments you had wanted to talk to Obi-Wan about everything with Cody, but you had seen what he thought about Anakin’s feelings for Padme. You weren’t sure if Obi-Wan knew about their very real relationship and just chose to ignore it, or if he was in denial. Not that Anakin was great about hiding it.
“They’ll be able to get us in about an hour,” Obi-Wan said, leaning back in his seat.
“You didn’t happen to bring a game of Dejarik with you? Maybe they stowed one away in here?” You grinned as both men gave you a questioning look. “I may have told Anakin that I beat you at it.”
Obi-Wan rolled his eyes, “Of course you did.”
“I beat you at Dejarik,” Cody pointed out.
You whined, “Yes but I beat all of the boys except for Maverick.” You pouted for a moment – the boys were glad that they had diverted your attention away from the stranded children – before your mischievous grin was back on your face. “So, when do I get to see the two of you play?”
-
A light ‘beep’ from your comms had you jumping up from your bed and unlocking the door. It slid open to reveal a de-armored Cody standing out in the hallway on the Republic Rescue Cruiser that had picked you up. You were in-route back to Coruscant with Ahsoka and the younglings in tow – all safe and sound. You had found a vacant room on the ship that gave you a bit of distance from everyone else. After spending some time with the younglings, you had sent Cody a message to meet you there later. Which was why he was in front of you now.
You grabbed his hand, pulling him inside with a soft, “Hello.”
“I slipped away as soon as I could, we never usually–” He was cut off by you kissing the Force out of him, his back pressed against the now closed door. His hands landed on your waist, a small moan leaving his lips. He pulled his head away, ignoring the small pain that goes through his skull as it hits the door, “Pip.”
“Shut up and kiss me,” you demanded, grabbing his face with your hands to draw his lips back to yours. You needed him. It had been something you were figuring out since your first kiss. Every time his hands brushed up against you or he sent you one of his crooked smiles, heat would crawl up your neck and make its home in your cheeks.
You knew that you loved Cody.
But wanting him was an entirely different battle.
And not one that you were worried about losing as you were ready to devour him. Cody gasped, and you realized the energy that was pulsating in the room. It was like how you felt in that small closet, no space between you – except this time Cody was feeling it with you. “Okay?” You mumbled against his lips, afraid to overwhelm him. His only response was to grab the backs of your thighs and lift you up so you could wrap your legs around his waist. You giggled, kissing him sweetly. He carried you to the small bed, sitting on it so you could straddle him. He ran a hand through your hair, running his thumb down the side of your face. His warm eyes were gentle, hard lines of his face softened into something that was just for you.
“I thought we were going to talk about it before we did anything else,” the words left his lips and you could tell he was almost disappointed in himself. You sighed, knowing that the logical part of his brain was correct. Everything with him just felt right. You started to lift yourself from his lap, but he tugged you back down.
You quirked an eyebrow, “If we’re going to talk, I can’t be sitting on you.”
Cody narrowed his eyes playfully, and you enjoyed the lightness that seemed to envelop him. “Am I that distracting?”
“Yes, Cody.” He finally let go, allowing you to get up and sit beside him on the bed. You looked at him expectantly.
“I-uh,” he cleared his throat, “you and me, we’re–”
“I care about you,” you said simply. It was the truth. There was much more to that, but you understood that Cody wasn’t great with words about feelings. “And I know that there are a bunch of regulations and expectations. But I care about you and I don’t want to lose this.” You touched his scar with the tips of your fingers, and Cody leaned into your hand.
“We’ll look out for each other,” Cody provided.
“Like we always do,” you finished, a yawn escaping you.
“You should sleep.” The deadpan look on your face had him chuckling and pressing a kiss to your forehead.
You easily switch from sitting to laying on the bed, “Stay with me?”
He was right.
He couldn’t say no to you.
Ahsoka versus Obi-Wan – where did that even come from?
After the latest episode of the Clone Wars some people are pretty shaken up – so am I. And I’ve been thinking for a while, where did that whole Obi-Wan and Ahsoka argument come from – I’ve always liked both of these characters (Obi-Wan a little more, so I guess I’m not quite objective, sorry guys), and it was very painful to watch them quarrelling like that. I wanted answers. Explanations.
And I think I got some. More or less.
I’ve divided the whole argument into separate cases, so we can see things more clearly. Okay, let’s start!
First, the most basic case – duty versus emotion, Coruscant versus Mandalore
Let’s go back in time and have a closer look into Martez Sisters Arc. There, we had Ahsoka listening to the heartbreaking story of “The Cold and Heartless” Jedi Master who chose lives of dozens of people over the lives of Trace and Rafa’s parents. Now, think about it – it DOES sound quite similar to the dilemma we saw in Episode Nine. “The Cold and Heartless” Obi-Wan Kenobi (I’m being sarcastic on purpose) who chooses to go to Coruscant (where we have Chancelor, Padme, Jedi Temple, not to mention thousands of innocent people) and grab the opportunity to stop the war (Greavous is there, Dooku probably too, and getting them would mean ending the war) instead of going to Mandalore.
And now, I’m going to explain, why I believe Ahsoka is very immature here.
The sad fact is, that even though she still thinks of herself as a Jedi, she has absorbed the “Civilian’s Way of Thinking”.
And what is the “Civilian’s Way of Thinking”? Basically, it’s the way of thinking of a person like you and me, who just lives their life, wants to be happy, and doesn’t need to take responsibility for the lives of dozens of people… who doesn’t UNDERSTAND what is it like to HAVE TO choose and then live with the choice. Yup, I’m talking about Rafa and Trace here.
And what hurts me most, is that Ahsoka shouldn’t be like this. She’s been to the war – she should know, that for the leaders life isn’t that simple.
And I’m NOT saying here, that the Jedi Order is perfect – I do believe they should change. For example, allow themselves to be just a little bit more emotional, like Qui-Gon and Anakin, so they would seem more approachable to the people like Trace and Rafa. Because this seems to be the problem here – not just the choice Luminara has made (a lot of people assume she was “The Heartless Jedi” who killed the duo’s parents), but her explanation afterwards. “The Force will always be with you” sounds like a religious bullshit to someone who’s had nothing to do with the Force.
It’s Ahsoka’s right to feel compassionate towards Martez sisters. But it didn’t feel right to me, that she didn’t even try to change their minds a little bit, to show them the other side of the coin. That’s what I disliked in the whole Martez Arc, by the way. When Rafa tells Ahsoka that “she is the kind of person Jedi should be”, Ahsoka should reply something like “but they are good Jedi in the Galaxy, a lot of them are!” Hell, Ahsoka, did you already forget who taught you all about compassion and helping people? (cough… Anakin… cough… Obi-Wan).
But she doesn’t say anything. Not only she doesn’t defend her friends, but also she kinds of ABSORBS Trace and Rafa’s way of thinking. She’s literally going BACKWARDS at this point – she becomes like every one of us. Because we are normal people, we tend to side with those who make “romantic” choices instead of logical ones.
Anakin and Obi-Wan turning their back to Coruscant, abandoning everything and everyone just to fight alongside Ahsoka would be a very romantic choice, but, let’s face it - a very stupid one. STILL, she expects them to do it. And gets annoyed at them, when they choose not to do it.
WHY she gets annoyed?
That’s second, much deeper case – Ahsoka remembering being expelled from the Order and blaming her Masters.
Which is another thing that upsets me, because after Martez Sisters Arc I really hoped… NO, ever since the events from “the Wrong Jedi” I hoped, that Ahsoka didn’t really blame Anakin or Obi-Wan for anything. That she just walked away, because she sensed (not completely unreasonably) that something was terribly wrong with the Jedi Order and she needed to think things through - to think, what kind of person (and maybe Jedi?) she wants to be. It’s something we see a lot, and something I personally like very much – a character walking away from the others to think, to be alone for a while and to find their own path.
But it’s not Ahsoka’s case.
I mean… okay, it IS her case, but there is something more.
After what had happened, she HAS bitter feeling towards Anakin and Obi-Wan (especially Obi-Wan) – and that’s probably the reason she didn’t really try to defend the Jedi in front of Martez sisters. That she didn’t say anything about knowing Jedi Knights who are actually very caring and who are ready to risk their lives for the people.
It was easier for her to side with Trace and Rafa, because she was hurt by the Jedi too.
But did she really had the right to blame Anakin and Obi-Wan?
Let’s analyze the events from The Wrong Jedi Arc all over again.
Ahsoka gets arrested for killing Leta. Someone helps her out of her cell, and she assumes it’s Anakin – she doesn’t think about WHY Anakin would help her get out, and how it would look like. That it’s completely illogical and suspicious. She’s still young and emotional, that’s why she doesn’t do what a more mature person would do – stop and THINK how her actions would look like from the outside.
And how do they look like?
“If she didn’t do anything wrong, why is she running away?” – that’s the question everyone starts asking at this point.
Anakin chases her and finally catches up. He says he trusts her, that he’ll help her. And yet, she STILL runs away from him.
She decides to side up with Ventress and later gets caught.
And in spite of lots of evidence against her, a lot of Council Member are still reluctant to believe she was the culprit. Obi-Wan takes her side, but it doesn’t matter, since he is outvoted. We still don’t know, if Ahsoka knew about him defending her – if she didn’t, it makes it more sense, why she is cold to Obi-Wan now.
But, anyway – Obi-Wan is one case. Anakin, who works his ass, running around Coruscant, looking for Ventress, trying to clear Ahsoka’s name, is another. Anakin LITTERALY did everything to protect his Padawan, he shouted at Council Members in the Chamber of Justice, and…
And Ahsoka is super cold to him, next time they meet. Cold in a way a wounded child would be – a child who expected their parent… eghm… MASTER to move the Universe and prevent all the bad things from happening, and got upset when they failed.
Which brings us to…
The last case – everyone’s ATTITUDE. I believe this is the most serious problem here.
Making it as shortest as possible, it would look like this:
Anakin – warm, optimistic and shyly hopeful.
Obi-Wan – warm (not as much as Anakin, though), then cautious, then slightly cold, but still very polite and quite open to options.
Ahsoka – cold and professional (professional in the negative sense) from the very beginning, then warming up to Anakin just a little bit, after he shows her painted helmets and lightsabers.
Now, if we look at these descriptions once again, we can easily see how Ahsoka’s attitude affects Obi-Wan’s and how it DOESN’T affect Anakin. Obviously, Skywalker is the one more attached to Ahsoka here, and thus, he’s a little bit blinded by affection – but it ends up as a good thing, because he becomes a mediator in the conflict and he acts as the most reasonable person in the room. He is desperate (yup, desperate) to make all the people he loves happy. Anakin’s approach seems the best one, because he takes the arguments of both sides into consideration, he doesn’t allow Ahsoka’s accusations to make him lose his cool, and he finds a very good solution, that both Obi-Wan and Ahsoka accept.
BUT, what I actually believe is…
That Anakin doesn’t really give a shit what’s the whole discussion is about. Obviously, he wants to go to Coruscant, because that’s where Chancelor and Padme are, but except from that… Did you notice, he didn’t really present any arguments of his own? He just didn’t like Ahsoka and Obi-Wan quarrelling, and wanted to please both of them. Especially Ahsoka! I believe he was ready to do ANYTHING to make his ex-Padawan warm up to him again. And maybe, just maybe, make her become his Padawan again.
Think about the whole helmet and lightsaber surprise thing. It MUST have taken him some time to prepare all of this. I can’t think of any other reason he wanted to do it, except from wanting to draw Ahsoka back to the Order again. Or maybe, just before her arrival, he was naively hoping she would come back by herself.
Why do I use the word “naively”?
Let’s jump to the Obi-Wan’s point of view now…
Kenobi was close to Ahsoka, but not as close as Anakin, and thus he is able to analyze the girl’s actions (her words and body language) more rationally, from the distance. If we look carefully, we can see, that Obi-Wan’s attitude changes through the whole episode – or, more precisely, it ADAPTS to Ahsoka’s attitude.
First, the hologram scene. At this point, Obi-Wan holds absolutely no bad emotions towards Ahsoka – he is positively surprised to see her, but he’s also very cautious. He immediately notices, what Anakin can’t – that Ahsoka isn’t the same person anymore. He does what he does best – he observes. And he notices Anakin’s emotional reaction as well.
Then, pre-arrival scene. I like the way, how Obi-Wan described himself here: “cautiously optimistic”. It balances Anakin’s naïve optimism perfectly. Why naïve? Because, well…
Anakin acts as if he didn’t notice Ahsoka’s distance to him during the hologram’s message. Or maybe he refused to see it. But Obi-Wan DID see, that’s why he’s all like:
“You know, Anakin… I don’t really think it’s going to go as nicely as you think”.
Nonetheless, both men have very, very positive attitude to Ahsoka before her arrival. Their faces send a message, which can be interpreted as something like:
“Okay, Ahsoka, we didn’t see each other for a long time, but we are genuinely happy to see you. We don’t know, what this is all about yet, but because it’s you, we are ready to listen and maybe help”.
But then, Ahsoka arrives and things start going wrong.
It’s not really about her saying “we don’t have time for the small talk and cute reunions”, because it’s… well… reasonable. She’s right. It’s HOW she says it. Her way of saying things sounds wrong. There is no warm, not even a polite nod with a short text like “nice to see you too, Anakin” – it wouldn’t cost her THAT much time, would it? She treats Anakin and Obi-Wan as strangers, or maybe exes she had divorced (I’m not implying anything romantic here, I just mean the air around this conversation), with whom she wants nothing but purely business relationships. Although, she SHOULD treat them like old friends to whom she came to ask for a favor. Because, hello, let’s face it – it IS a favor! Bo-Katan makes it sound like a win-win deal (“you get Maul, I get Mandalore”), but it IS a favor, that requires Republic to break X treaties and move its forces from the Clone Wars to… yeah, another war. But “what’s another war”, right? (sarcasm alert here)
I’m not saying Ahsoka has bad intentions. She has a chance to do something good to Mandalore and its people. And, luckily to her, she has connections to people like Obi-Wan and Anakin – it seems like an obvious choice to come to this two, and say something like:
“Hey, we were (and still are?) friends, we did so many good things together, so I thought maybe you could help me with this one?”
That’s how you ask someone for a favor after showing out of nowhere, after many years. Anakin and Obi-Wan have absolutely NO obligations towards Mandalore – but they COULD think they should do something there, if a person they both trusted, would ask them to. And they actually want to help, EVEN THOUGH said person is being super cold towards them. First cold, then accusing and judging.
And that’s the point, where I think Ahsoka starts getting negative points from Obi-Wan.
He tries to take her arguments into consideration, but he doesn’t like her attitude. Especially her attitude towards Anakin. We see Obi-Wan quickly looking from Ahsoka to Anakin many times during the whole episode, but the line is really crossed during their last conversation. Obi-Wan notices Anakin’s emotional reaction, when Coruscant is mentioned, that’s why he says “not to worry, we can be there within an hour”. But Ahsoka only sees her own agenda and, oh, that wonderful “enlightment” she got after meeting Martez Sisters, about how A True Jedi should act. She completely misses Anakin’s own personal worry about Coruscant. She rejects the simple truth, that she DOESN’T need to lecture Anakin and Obi-Wan about being good Jedi – she (and we, the audience) saw them helping people they were not obligated to help many times during Clone Wars.
Not just Anakin, Obi-Wan too. We can complain, that Obi-Wan likes the rules and refuses to do things without Council’s permission, but the truth is, he ends up doing the right thing anyway (usually after Anakin’s delicate persuasion).
And think about it:
Ahsoka lecturing Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi about failing people and failing her – it seems ridiculous. That’s right – RIDICULOUS!
And childish, of course. And that’s the only reason I still like Ahsoka after this episode. Because I remember, she hadn’t matured completely, she still sees things from a bit childish point of view.
We know, it WILL change in Rebels, and that’s what brings me hope.
Sorry for making this post so long, guys. Heck, I don’t even write stuff like this on Tumblr, but I needed to get it out of my system so badly! And, of course, I completely understand, if you disagree with me.
If someone’s up to the discussion, don’t hesitate to contact me ;)
Real Funny - part 1
Something I’ve been slow cooking for a few years, a little all over the place. Some plot pieces aren’t mine, just something I played with.
Trigger Warning; Contains swearing, violence, mentions of nudity
The battle for Dathomir was beyond ridiculous. The Separatists had decided that they really wanted the planet, and both the Nightsisters and Nightbrothers had decided to remain neutral in the fight for their own planet. So, we had to fight for the planet, for them. "Can't wait to get off this rock." Hardcase groused, coming up to my perch during a quiet period between waves.
I kept my eyes out for droids, it being my job, as a sniper, to remain as a lookout while everyone rested "You and me both, vod. Sooner we get off this shit hole and back to hot water, the better." I agreed jokingly, narrowing my eyes at any movement.
"I forgot, you can't maintain body temperature very well." He chuckled, bumping my ribs gently as though to goad me. While it was true that I used hot water to warm up quickly, I could maintain body temperature decently enough.
"Dickhead." I laughed as I nudged him towards the edge of the branch slightly.
"You know you love me." He winked when I did finally look at him.
I fixed him with a deadpan and paused for a few moments "Let me get back to you on that." Laughter roared from other vode that were sitting at the base of the tree. He made a funny face at me before I turned away in time to see a green mist approaching "Incoming!" I shouted, alerting the generals. Before anyone could do anything, it smacked Hardcase square in the face, seeming to enter through his ears, eyes, and mouth. He coughed and waved it away before it disappeared. He climbed down the tree to go see the generals and I stayed in my perch until relieved. Boy, was I in for a shock.
"Go see the generals." Was all my replacement said as he settled in on the other side of me, getting comfortable for a long shift. The entire way down the tree and to the command tent, I thought I had done something very wrong and my commander didn't want to even deal with me.
"You wanted to see me, Generals?" I asked shyly as soon as I entered, focusing on them instead of what was on the table behind them.
"Yes Val, it seems that we are in need of some... special assistance..." General Kenobi admitted, looking a bit shamefaced as he blushed and clasped his hands behind his back.
I looked between he, Skywalker, and Plo Koon before finally looking down at the table... and burst out laughing "Sergeant Val, this is serious." Plo reminded me, seeming to be more concerned for his tiny commander than angry at me.
"I'm sorry sirs. It's just... Oh my god!" I couldn't stop laughing as the tiny Wolffe and Dogma both glared at me.
"Laugh it up, Jerkface." Hardcase squeaked, his voice high pitched because of how small he was. It only made me laugh harder until I had to stand with my hands on my knees.
"We need you to take care of them until we return from the Nightsisters. It is highly contagious to other clones, so don't let them touch anyone." Skywalker instructed once I had calmed enough.
"O-of course sir." I giggled, unclipping my helmet from my belt and holding it next to the table "All aboard the Helmet Express." I snickered, earning more glares from Wolffe before he jumped in. Jesse, Rex, Cody, Kix, Dogma, Tup, and Hardcase followed soon after. The Generals left soon after and I left the tent, holding my helmet close to my chest so that the boys all had a solid support system as they all leaned over the edge to watch where we were going from their new perspective.
"Can I get out of the helmet?" Tup asked politely, his squeak making my grin reappear.
"Sure. But go anywhere perverted and I'll rip you a new one when you get back to normal size." I warned as he started climbing up the armor on my arm. They all followed suit except for Commander Cody. Cody, being the Extra little shithead he was, decided that he wanted to take a nap on my head... tied in some of my loose hairs. That didn't feel weird at all.
"Woahahahaha!!!" Jesse and Hardcase laughed, enjoying the wind that was generated by my walking while Captain Rex stayed on my forearms, arms and legs crossed as he leisurely watched the base go by.
"You boys hungry?" I asked, knowing that I surely was. Everyone except Cody made sounds of affirmation. Cody was vibrating slightly in a rhythm... I think he was asleep... So, I got us all a tray, earning strange looks from other troopers as they passed, and sat at the very furthest corner of the furthest table with my back to a tent wall. I kept my head steady for Cody as the others gathered around the tray and ate their fills, watching the others in the tent as they stared and whispered.
"Val." Came the warm voice of Commander Tano as she entered the tent, her hands cupped to her middle. She came over quickly, seeming concerned about the clones around the tray and whatever was in her hands. She took a seat next to me and opened her hands on the table, revealing an unconscious Fives who was curled in a shivering ball. "I found him after the Generals left. He won't wake up."
She kept him in her hands as Kix checked him over "His body is in shut down because of how cold he is. If we don't get him warm, he may die."
"Everyone in the helmet." I instructed, gently taking Fives from Ahsoka and keeping him close to my middle. Everyone did as instructed before I stood and quickly made my way to my tent where we'd be able to stay warm for the night. Night time on Dathomir was cold enough for someone my size, I couldn't imagine how bad it was for someone who was about six inches tall. Once inside, I poked Cody awake as Kix and Rex got Fives out of his armor as the others made a sleeping space for themselves. Once he was out of my hair, literally, I took off my torso armor and rolled up my blacks top so that my midriff was showing. I kept Fives tucked close as we all laid down, thankful that the two had left him in his blacks. Kix sat close to him as he shivered harder than I've ever felt anyone shiver. "Do you think he'll make it?" I whispered softly, not wanting to disturb the clones that decided that they wanted to sleep close to their sick brother as well.
He watched Fives for a few minutes before answering "We're made out of tough stuff." He himself didn't seem so convinced.
"Get some sleep Kix, I've got him." I assured, moving a corner of blanket over my torso and gently pushing him down against the crook of my elbow, tucking him in with some of the corner.
"No, I'm the medic." He tried to argue, yawning widely as he tried to push himself up.
"Even medics need sleep, Kixy." I smiled warmly. Not even a minute later, he was snoring away. It took some time, but eventually, Fives stopped shivering and spread out on the exposed flesh of my torso, relaxing and falling into a more deep sleep. I too fell asleep, assured that he wasn't in anymore danger. When morning came, Hardcase and Jesse were practically jumping on my chest to wake me up faster while the others were talking amongst themselves. Fives was still laying in his spot, awake and grinning like an idiot.
I rolled my eyes and shooed the other two before sitting up "Hey." Fives winked.
I raised my brow at him "Kix, your patient is awake." I said flatly, putting Fives on the bedroll as I stood with a stretch and put on my armor. "Dogma, wanna help me with patrols?" I asked, knowing it would annoy a certain three.
"I wanna help too!" Tup piped up, jumping to get my attention as I fixed my hair.
"Ok vod, you can help too." I chuckled before picking up the helmet everyone was waiting in and leaving to find Ahsoka. "Can you watch them for a little bit? I have patrol duty until oh seven." I asked, making sure to make it seem like she was helping me a lot.
"Of course." She chirped, grinning broadly as she took the helmet, letting me scoop up Dogma and Tup before thanking her and moving along with my job.
It was a pretty boring two hours to be certain. "Val, come in." General Kenobi's voice came over the comms on my left arm.
"Here, sir." I answered, making our way to find Ahsoka and the others.
"Can you bring all of the effected clones to the coordinates I'm sending you?" He asked just as they popped up on the little screen.
"Of course sir. We should be there within an hour." I promised before the comm was disconnected. I wasted no time in finding Ahsoka and then rushing off to the point Obi-wan sent to me. "You know, I'll miss ya'll being this small and cute." I teased when we were halfway there.
"Hey, most of us are cute when normal sized. No offense, Fives." Jesse pipped jokingly as the others chuckled.
"Hey!" Fives cried indignantly.
"At least I'm the cutest!" Hardcase laughed, earning a few 'ya rights' and a 'you dwang!' from the others. I just laughed, shaking my head as I entered the old fortress built into the mountain side, watching the Nightsisters I passed warily, clutching my helmet tighter. They all watched me with the same degree of wariness, even when I passed through the doors and came to a stop in front of the Generals and the Nightmother. I bowed to all of them, careful of Cody who seemed to have an obsession with my hair.
"Right this way." The Nightmother said in the two toned voice, giving a flourish of her arm as she turned to lead us further into the fortress. It wasn't long until we were at a pool with other Nightsisters gathered around it "Put them into the water." She instructed. I did as she asked gently, even taking Cody out of my hair at the cost of a few strands because he had become tangled. When they were all in the water, waiting patiently, I stepped back next to General Kenobi, who looked up to NO GOOD. The Nightmother and the Nightsisters chanted and seemed to dance with bowls of green liquid as that green fog wrapped around the boys in the water. The fog got so thick in the room after a few minutes, we couldn't see anything until the boys stepped close to us, all back to their proper size. Hardcase was twitching like a tweeker because he wanted to hug me but couldn't, because of the Generals.
The Knights of Adamas - SW AU
Hey guys, found another story I completely forgot about, but I wanted to share it. It’s a bit different from my normal ones that I try very hard to keep as close to canon as possible, but it still fits in with the story line a bit.
What if Ahsoka was Obi wan’s padawan? And what if Qui gon and Padme had never found Anakin on Tatooine? (Also in this story, Anakin and Ahsoka are the same age). It starts at the Clone Wars movie time period to answer those questions. I hope you enjoy it!
Chapter 1:
Ahsoka pulled the cloak tight around her montrals. This place was strange to her. She’d never been to such a varied and depressing place. She shivered despite the heat from the twin suns above. Everywhere she looked it was just beige; the sand, the buildings, peoples’ clothes… all of it. It even felt beige, if that were possible. There was nothing particularly remarkable about Mos Espa, but for the vibe that lived beneath the surface. Despite the drab surroundings, people actually lived here; they settled here, they made it home. She noted the occasional decoration intended to bring color and life to their houses.
 She knew little about Tatooine, except for a quick perusal of the datapad her master had handed her before departing. Water was scarce, the main source of it was using towers to pull it from the very air. The way the suns beat down on her made her wonder how they even extracted enough to survive. The domed buildings were dwarfed by dozens of tall white towers reflecting the sun. The city was dirty, pests and rodents could be seen and smelled everywhere. She brought one hand up to pinch her nose. Sometimes she hated having a better sense of smell than most. It was also loud. Merchants shouted in the street, spaceships rumbled overhead, eclectic music streamed from cantinas that were spaced almost every block. There was always someone shouting, sometimes you could hear fighting, or blaster fire. Droids and machines beeped incessantly.
 She’d grown up on Coruscant, the planet that never sleeps, but in the peaceful Jedi temple, it hardly seemed too much. There she’d been mostly isolated from the outside world and what it was like. And she didn’t remember much of Shili, her home planet.
 She kept one hand near her lightsaber, this place was dangerous, her master had told her. A hive of scum and villainy. A haven for gangsters, runaways and all manner of life unwanted elsewhere.
 As she scurried to keep up with his longer strides, she couldn’t help but take note of every detail and every face. As it were, she was always at least several paces behind him, constantly distracted by the sights and sounds. It was hard to focus here. A rush of wind threw the hood of her cloak back and she felt someone grab her arm. She jumped in surprise, turning to look at a strange looking alien with purple skin. Even though he seemed to walk on his arms with his legs up in the air, he was still almost taller than her.
 “A Togruta?” it slurred as though it had been drinking. She glanced down and saw several bottles tipped over on the table next to it. “We don’t get many of you around these parts.” It looked her up and down making her uncomfortable. Her master had told her not to use her lightsaber unless absolutely necessary; Jedi were not typically welcome in places like these. She tugged at her robe to hide hers. “You’re of fine stock though, well-muscled, able to put in a day’s worth of labor.” It breathed on her and she coughed, waving her hand in front of her face to clear the smell of its breath. “What brings a child like you to this place?” he asked.
 “As if I’d tell you.” She snapped. “Let me go.” The creature rose up higher.
 “You dare speak back to your new master? Do you know what we do to unattended children in these parts? We put bombs inside their head and force them to work for us.”
 She screwed up her face in disgust about to spit on him. But before she could, her master was by her side, waving a hand in front of the creature’s face. “You will let her go and forget you saw us.” He said.
 The creature released her. “I will let her go and forget I saw you.” He repeated trance-like.
 “Stay close, Ahsoka.” He whispered, turning his back on her again.
 “Yes, master.” She murmured, throwing up her hood and hurrying after him.
 She followed him closely through the winding streets, trying to not let herself get distracted or too close to people. But as they moved through the town, she started feeling something. At first it was just a tickle of awareness, something she couldn’t make sense of. Like a whisper too soft to hear. It slowly got stronger though. It felt like it was pounding on her senses to pay attention.
 “Master! Master Kenobi!” she called up to him, running to get close enough to tug on his robes. He didn’t act as though he felt it, but he must. He was far more experienced in the force than her.
 “What is it, padawan?” he asked tiredly. She was trying to be a good and obedient padawan, but she had been unprepared for just how many questions she’d have once out in the galaxy. He must have been unprepared for it too. She often felt his impatience when she got curious about things.
 “Do you feel that?” she squeaked.
 “Feel what?”
 “I don’t know, something or someone in the force. It’s strong.” She replied, screwing up her face in concentration. Quieting the outside world caused the feeling to hit her with twice the intensity, making her stagger in order to not fall over.
 “I don’t feel anything. Come on, padawan. We must focus on our mission.” He replied.
 “Are there other Jedi here?” she asked stumbling after him.
 “Not that I’m aware of. Jedi tend to avoid planets like this.”
 “But why? Isn’t it a Jedi’s responsibility to help people everywhere?”
 “A Jedi’s responsibility is upholding the rights and values of the Republic by keeping the peace and protecting the planets that align themselves with the democracy. Unfortunately, child, you’ll learn that in times of war, we must focus our efforts on planets that are of strategic value to us. Tatooine is ruled by the Hutt cartel; a family of vile gangsters that allow such conditions to exist and encourages lifestyles swamped in violence.”
 “Then why are we here to help Jabba?” she asked. What he said bothered her. Regardless of the politics of a planet, the people should still be viewed as valuable and important. She strongly suspected that not all of them chose this life. Especially after what that creature had said about what they did to unaccompanied children.
 “We’re here to broker a temporary treaty with him in order to use the hyperspace lanes he controls to move our armies. That is all. The situation here, is unfortunate, but it is not our problem.” She could tell by his tone that it was the end of their discussion. It didn’t make any sense to her. She could feel the suffering from all around them. This planet may not be valuable to the Republic, but didn’t Jedi have a responsibility to light and justice too? Even if those in need of justice lived somewhere that the Republic didn’t care about?
 She bowed her head solemnly and followed him in silence. She clearly had much to learn about what it meant to be a Jedi. She needed to put her opinions to the side and listen to her master. She stopped suddenly as though the force had put a wall in front of her. The feeling had hit her even stronger than before. Whatever or whoever she was sensing was close, and she had a hunch she’d regret ignoring her instincts to go check it out. She slipped her consciousness into the force, allowing it to guide her to the right down an alley. The path opened up into a larger market and she looked around, feeling for what the force was trying to show her. At first, the place was a blur of noise and movement. But then she saw one person across the way become suddenly clear.
 He was just a boy from all she could tell. No older than herself. He was wearing tattered clothes and he had dirty blonde hair. He looked up, meeting her gaze across the crowded plaza as though he sensed her as strongly as she sensed him. Even from the distance she saw the bright blue of his eyes. She stared at him in confusion. He was very strong in the force. His appearance was nothing remarkable just like the city around him, but she could feel deeper layers surrounding him. Her curiosity got the better of her and she moved towards him, completely forgetting caution.
 She was halfway across the busy intersection when she felt it too late. “Look out!” she heard someone shout and then she went flying backwards, rolling a few times as someone grabbed her and ended up tangled up with her on the sandy ground. She coughed a few times, trying to blow the dust away from her face so she could see again. After a few blinks, she finally saw who was laying on top of her. It was the boy.
 “Are you okay?” she asked him, touching him on the shoulder. He sat back, shaking the dust out of his hair and pushing it behind his ear and looking at her.
 “Yeah. You?” he said. She sneezed as the dust fell down to her nose.
 “I think so.” She replied. “What happened?”
 “You walked right into the path of a bantha and those things are nasty when startled like that.” He replied, getting to his feet and reaching out a hand to help her up.
 “Thank you.” She said taking his hand and standing up, brushing herself off. “You have good reflexes.”
 “I’m the only human around that can survive podracing!” he exclaimed with a laugh as though that explained it all. She had no idea what podracing even was. He seemed to notice her confusion. “You’re not from around here. Do you know what podracing is?”
 “Well I can guess about the racing part, but no…” she said stubbornly.
 “Come on, I’ll show you the one I’ve been working on.” He said. She followed him back to the shop he’d been working at and around to the back. He pushed a button to open a door, but it moved only a few inches and then stopped. “Kriffing thing!” he yelled, kicking the door and then pressing and holding the button to reset it. The door closed again and then opened properly. She followed him into a garage piled to the brim of seemingly useless junk.
 He pulled a cloth off something in the corner. It looked like a weird landspeeder. But the way he admired it, it must have been something special. To her, ships were just ships. He rubbed his hand along it as though it were the most precious thing in the world to him.
 “Isn’t it beautiful?” he asked, she didn’t want to say no. Not when she saw the way the smile crossed his lips and the spark in his eyes. She didn’t see anything particularly special about it, but then again, she wasn’t one to knock someone’s passion. Especially when there wasn’t much else to do or care about on this dusty world.
 “How does it work?” she asked, not trusting herself to lie about liking the cold machine in front of her.
 “Well it doesn’t work just yet. I’ve been working on it for over a year. But parts are hard to come by. When it flies though, it will be the fastest podracer the galaxy has ever seen. Here, I’ll show you the one I built a few years ago and won my first race in.” he said, marching out of the garage and around the corner to another shed. He punched in a code and this door opened smoother. This one at least looked like a vehicle. Although a very unsafe one.
 “Impressive.” She said trying to sound enthusiastic. “But you still haven’t told me what podracing is.”
 “Oh!” he said lighting up. He went on for a while describing all the ins and outs of podracing, the rules and why it’s so incredible that he can do it. To hear him talk about the danger though, she wasn’t very surprised that he was good at it. Jedi have good reflexes because they can sense things in the force just before they happen. So, racing through narrow canyons at outrageous speeds? Not a problem for a force sensitive. She had a hunch that he’d truly be an incredible Jedi, if only he’d been found early enough to be trained.
 She was suddenly sad, thinking what a waste it was that someone with his potential was stuck on such a horrible planet.
 She snapped back to attention when she heard him say ‘master’, but it wasn’t in the same way she used it. “You’re a slave?” she asked, hearing the resentment in his voice.
 “No, my name is Anakin Skywalker, and I’m a person!” he emphasized the last part as though it were too easy to forget that.
 "I'm sorry," she whispered. Why had the force brought her to this boy? Was she suppose to free him? He closed the garage door behind them as silence fell.
 "Little Ani found himself a girlfriend!" A Rodian boy called from down the alley. She blushed vividly and threw up the hood of her cloak. "Trust me, you can do better than that slave trash!"
 "Like you?" She hollered back, fists curling into a ball.
 "Yeah baby! Like me!" He said picking up a rock and chucking it in their direction. It missed, but the boy's friends also picked up rocks and started throwing them too.
 "Ignore them." Anakin said softly from behind her. "They're not worth the time. Greedo and his lackeys; just neighborhood bullies." She watched a stone hit him in the arm and he didn't even flinch. It made her mad, she didn't like bullies.
 She turned facing the boy he'd called Greedo and his friends. "Hey slimo!" She yelled. "How about you come a little closer, and I'll show you what I like."
 The Rodian puffed up his chest like he was all that, glanced at his friends and marched forward. The moment he was within range, she stomped her foot on the ground, twirled around and punched him square between the eyes. He fell backwards. "You're going to pay for that!" He cried. His friends charged in to defend him. She ducked under their punches, twirled around knocking one of them out. The other one she flipped over her shoulder. Greedo got back on his feet and she blocked three swings, stepped on his foot and kneed him in the groin.
 When they were all on the ground in varying states of shock and pain, she said, "now run along and find something better to do." They obliged, she didn't have to say it twice. She smirked to herself as the one that started it all, waddled away holding his crotch.
 When she turned around Anakin was looking at her eyes wide. "Who are you, anyways? And where'd you learn to fight like that?"
 "My name is Ahsoka." She said, "and that's not important." She looked down and saw blood dribbling from his arm. "You're bleeding."
 He glanced down. "So I am." He sounded so calm as though this happened all the time. She wasn't sure why she felt such compassion for him, she hardly knew him. He turned and walked around to the front of the shop and she followed him. "I've finished my chores for the day, may I go now?" He asked the Toydarian inside the shop. His master just waved him away vaguely like he didn't really care.
 She wasn't sure why she was still following him, he hadn't invited her to come along. But she didn't like the way he walked staring at his feet. His stride was long too, but he was walking slowly. Even though he hadn't spoken since they'd left the marketplace, she felt as though his pace was slow so she could keep up without running.
Fic prompts, please! Either cliche for Rex/Obi "Got each other's bag"; or Sarcasm 28 “Excuse me. I have to go make a scene.” (for whoever it amuses!)
AAAHHHHH so sometimes I do complete prompts in my promptedrabbles file, yay. THE LEVERAGE/SW CROSS NOBODY ASKED FOR lol
Based on the Mile High Job
so we’ll call it
Pie in the Sky Job (oh, no, that’s probably bad? ugh idk)
Qui-Gon eyed the board with a grimace. “Right, so the assets are on the plane headed for the Cayman Islands. Ani?”
“Yeah! Yeah. I can get you on that plane. So that’s… four tickets, coming right up.”
“Make it three,” Obi-Wan put in quickly. “I have an Air Marshal badge.”
Ahsoka frowned at him. “Wait, what if there’s a Marshal on the flight already?”
“There’s only one marshal for every hundred flights.”
Anakin’s choked-off curse was fairly audible over comms. “O-okay, you know what? I felt a lot safer not knowing that.”
“Same here,” Ahsoka muttered.
“Doesn’t change the fact that it’s true.” Obi-Wan pointed out, amused.
“Make it two tickets,” Qui-Gon said, already thinking ahead. “One authority figure is good, two is better. Ahsoka, you’re about to get a day job.”
“Huh?” Ahsoka’s head came up. “Wait, doing what?”
Lifting a flight attendant’s suitcase required a minor bit of improvisation, with Obi-Wan as a disgruntled passenger providing an excellent distraction.
“Sometimes I feel bad about playing with people like that,” Tahl murmured, watching from a polite distance as Ahsoka switched the flight attendant’s suitcase with another, similar one. Tahl and Qui-Gon had also surreptitiously lifted a bag each from unclaimed luggage.
“She’ll get home and find that there’s nothing wrong with her cat, it was all a misunderstanding,” Qui-Gon shrugged. “And that she somehow picked up the wrong suitcase,” he added after a moment’s thought.
“Well. Small casualties,” Tahl shrugged.
“Tahl, did you, er—”
“Yes, Qui?”
Qui-Gon cleared his throat. “You checked the suitcases, I noticed. Did you—”
“Naturally.”
“Right. Let’s just—go.”
“So how did you know there’d be an extra uniform in her bag?” Ahsoka asked, catching up to them—already in uniform, in fact.
“Flight attendants are required to carry an extra uniform, in case something happens to the one they’re wearing.” Obi-Wan supplied.
“Or in case of unscheduled flights,” Tahl added, with a smirk.
Ahsoka eyed both of them uncertainly. “Seriously, how do you guys just know this?”
Tahl’s smirk grew positively feline, “Slept with a flight attendant.”
“Worked flight secur—what?” Obi-Wan didn’t quite reel, but it was a near thing.
Qui-Gon just laughed at them and waved them along. “Come on, later. Wouldn’t want to miss the flight Anakin is so kindly getting us last-minute tickets for. To the Cayman Islands. Do I even want to know?”
“Uh—no, not particularly, no,” Anakin said. “Those poor souls won’t suffer for it, anyway. I’m sure the company will reimburse them, or something.”
By the time Obi-Wan was on the other side of the security check, though, Anakin had already cleared everything up with their flight plan. Tahl and Qui-Gon, for some reason, were held up at the checkpoint.
“What’s going on there?” Anakin asked, trying not to sound anxious.
It was Obi-Wan who answered—not in any way reassuring. “Oh god, that’s embarrassing.”
Anakin sat up quickly. “Whaaaat’s happening?”
Obi-Wan growled into the mic. “Qui-Gon, couldn’t you have checked the bags you lifted? Just in case?”
“Oh—”
There was an awkward cough just before Tahl cut in with an excited “It’s our third anniversary!” to the guard.
Anakin was pretty sure he heard Obi-Wan choke back a laugh. “Didn’t want to know that either,” Anakin muttered darkly. Ahsoka had apparently decided that selective deafness was the better part of valour.
Qui-Gon seemed to be scowling. “Tahl, I thought you said you’d handed it off?”
“Well, now, I did think flying with two of those might be a bit excessive.”
“Good god, there were two.”
“Was that a facepalm? Obi-Wan, tell me he’s facepalming?”
Obi-Wan’s voice came back over comms, amused. “Yes, Ani, he’s facepalming, and not at you for once. Congratulations. Not-Anakin-Facepalm Tuesdays, new holiday. What terminal should we be at?”
It was one of the weirdest flights Rex had ever been on, and he’d even managed to sleep through most of it. One of the flight attendants had been… aggressively blunt about flight safety, and in general dispatched her job efficiently, but with the disaffected air of someone who was focused on something bigger than passing (throwing) snacks. There were some complaints. The complaints were also quiet.
Across the aisle, Rex spotted a man who’d come aboard without a carry-on, which was a little odd until the flight attendant moved to ask him something and he flashed her a badge. Air Marshal, Rex thought. Feel safer already.
Of course, that had to be the moment his sleep-deprived brain chose to inform him that, safe or no, said Air Marshal was really not bad on the eyes. He reflexively smothered that thought and decided that he may as well try to sleep through the flight. Honestly, hitting on an Air Marshal mid-flight? That sounded like a bad idea all around.
Rex was all the more certain of it when he missed the Out of Order sign on the door—he’d been a bit preoccupied, watching a fiery redhead talking urgently with a couple of the passengers up front—and walked in on a body in the lavatory. Knocked out, cold. Rex took one look at the knife in the sink, definitely ceramic, and at how neatly the man had been incapacitated, and decided he didn’t want to get into… whatever this was.
At the same time his opinion of the Air Marshal ticked up yet another notch.
Though, if ‘Air Marshal’ was all this man was, Rex would have to eat his own boots, and he didn’t relish the idea. The pair of passengers he’d been speaking with were a bit odd; one was a very tall gentleman, with long hair and a neat beard, and the other was an even taller lady, dark-skinned and green-eyed. Rex couldn’t quite bet on them being a couple, for all their marital-sounding disputes, but they were definitely drift-compatible. At least he caught their names in the midst of those small tiffs: Qui-Gon, he thought, and Tahl—Baker? Such a normal surname for such odd given names.
And if Rex hadn’t seen all three of them together earlier, he might actually have sounded the alarm when he witnessed their clever double act, surreptitiously checking the bags of the passengers behind them. Both Tahl’s lift and Qui-Gon’s handoff of the unsuspecting passenger’s bag were pitch perfect, but Rex also had the chance to note that they hadn’t taken anything.
If Rex had been hoping for a moment’s sleep on this flight, though, he’d been horribly mistaken. With less than an hour left to go, the trip went from intriguing to harrowing as the plane dipped into a rapid descent. He was surprised—thankfully momentarily distracted—when Tahl appeared next to him, a terrified young woman in tow.
“Mind if we join you?”
He shook his head, numb.
“Oh, Good. This is Marissa,” she said, sounding almost chipper as she stepped into the aisle, “and my name’s Tahl.”
“Pleasure,” Rex said tightly.
Tahl threw a sharp glance his way. “Done this before?”
He managed a quick nod.
“Don’t worry, my husband’s an engineer with the company, he’s up front, he can fix this.”
Engineer, Rex’s entire ass, but Tahl sounded absolutely certain that this was something that could be fixed, so Rex tried to smile. “Thanks.”
Who the hell knew, anyway. Qui-Gon could certainly pass for an engineer. Tahl still had that knowing look, though, and in a moment she took his hand and squeezed.
He didn’t actually remember the next few minutes. When he got his brain back in his skull, he realised that people had been cheering and clapping, and that they’d landed—though, where, he had no idea, hadn’t they been in the middle of the ocean? In any case, Tahl and Marissa both looked relieved. And the brusque flight attendant popped up out of nowhere and handed Marissa a ginger ale.
“Thank you, Ahsoka,” Tahl murmured, sounding infinitely patient. Rex decided that was pretty funny, for some reason. He doubled over laughing, probably on the verge of hysteria.
In a little while, they started letting passengers out of the plane. Rex didn’t get up, though. He decided to wait, get his breathing back under control. Tahl and Marissa didn’t seem to be in a hurry to get anywhere, either. The passengers in First Class were just beginning to disembark when Qui-Gon reappeared, the redhead on his heels.
Qui-Gon seemed particularly concerned. “Everyone all right?”
Tahl nodded, and Ahsoka replied with an oddly enthusiastic “Yep!”
“Obi-Wan, we need to do something about Erlick.”
Obi-Wan—the Air Marshal, apparently—just shrugged. “When I knock people out they tend to stay knocked out.”
“Fair enough. Still, probably want to hand him over to the authorities.”
“You know, if they’re doing this as carefully as I think they are?” Obi-Wan looked thoughtful. “There should be someone waiting on the ground to make sure he got the job done. Or, more accurately, that he went down with the plane.”
Qui-Gon grimaced. “And he didn’t.”
“Well!” Tahl rose and straightened out her blouse. “In that case, Genegrow’s taken care of all the loose ends for us.”
Qui-Gon turned to help Obi-Wan take the luggage out of the compartments, passing suitcases to the passengers around them. Tahl walked a pale and shaking Marissa back to her aisle, and Rex stood up and reached for his suitcase—which Obi-Wan seemed about to take with him. “I’m sorry, I believe that’s my bag.”
Obi-Wan glanced up at him and blinked, then cracked the brightest grin Rex had ever seen. “Oh. I believe you’re right, it is—I’m sorry.”
Rex grinned back like an idiot. “Not at all. Can I get your name?” He saw Qui-Gon give Obi-Wan a sideways glance and shake his head, but decided not to pay it any mind, especially since Obi-Wan didn’t look like he was about to refuse.
“I’m—”
He was interrupted by a loud crash and flight attendant’s scream. Obi-Wan glanced over his shoulder, and Rex noticed ‘Erlick’ had barrelled right through the flimsy door.
“Excuse me,” Obi-Wan apologised, his grin irrepressible. “I have to go make a scene.”
He did make quite a scene, and handed Erlick over to the proper authorities outside. Rex shook his head and figured it was bad luck.
Except, of course, when he stuck his hands in his pockets he discovered a square of paper with a number scrawled on it, sighed Obi-Wan.
Day 5- Game
There’s a new Admiral aboard the Resolute who has some questions about Anakin’s teaching methods.
rating: g
pairings: none
word count: 1272
(read on ao3)
I’m sorry this one’s late. I hated it yesterday but I’m much happier with it now.
The new Admiral was temporary. Just until Yularen recovered from his injuries.
Anakin kept that mantra on repeat in his head. It was the only way he could maintain proper respect for Yularen's replacement.
Admiral Pike Vantora was the stiffest man Anakin had ever met. He followed protocol down to the letter, ordered the clones around without thought, called for strategy meetings at dawn and had made several haughty comments about Ahsoka's attire. Everyone aboard the Resolute tolerated his presence, but the atmosphere cooled considerably whenever Vantora entered a room.
When Yularen got back, Anakin had a feeling the entire crew of the ship would be on their best behaviour. At least for a while. But for now, he was doing his best to make sure that life on the Resolute continued on as normal.
“Seventy two kills, Master!” Ahsoka exclaimed as the two of them entered the bridge. “My squadron finally beat yours!”
“By three kills, Ahsoka,” Anakin said airily. “Don't get cocky. It won't happen again.”
Ahsoka grinned and headed into the war room to assist Rex while Anakin continued up the deck. He was checking on the progress of their course through hyperspace when there was a polite cough behind him.
“Excuse me, General Skywalker,” came Admiral Vantora's snooty voice. “May I have a word?”
“Of course, Admiral,” Anakin said, straightening up. He turned around. “Is something wrong?”
“You tell me,” Vantora said. He was a short, bald man, with a large moustache and bushy eyebrows that were almost always furrowed together. There were permanent frown lines on his forehead. That frown that had been gaining a reputation lately was currently directed up at Anakin. “If it was a one time thing, I could ignore it, but no, it's been consistent for weeks, a pattern- why are you and your Padawan treating this war like it's some kind of game?”
Ah. Anakin should have known that this would come up eventually. He folded his arms in front of him and waited.
“Keeping score of the enemies you've destroyed, trying to outfly each other during space battles,” Vantora went on. “Do you have no respect for your position as a General and teacher? Thousands of men die in these battles and you want to play games? What kind of example are you trying to set for your pupil, Skywalker?”
Vantora was not the first person to question Anakin's teaching methods, and he wouldn't be the last. He often faced whispers and offhanded comments by other Masters for the way he taught his apprentice. When the comments were from a Jedi, he stayed quiet out of respect. They could think what they wanted.
But, he had been waiting for an opportunity to put Vantora in his place.
“Come with me, Admiral,” Anakin said mildly, and strode across the bridge, leaving Vantora scrambling behind him. By the time the Admiral caught up, Anakin had retrieved a datapad from an officer and was pulling up the database, which contained the profiles of all ranking officers aboard the Resolute. He navigated to Commanders, then selected a profile and handed the datapad to Vantora.
“Read this for me, will you?”
Vantora glanced at the profile, then scoffed. “I hardly think I need a refresher on your apprentice's military archive data.”
“Read it anyway.”
Vantora heaved a long-suffering sigh. “Let's see. Padawan Ahsoka Tano. Rank- Commander. Species- Togruta, homeworld- Shili. Fourteen standard years of age, a Jedi Padawan under the tutelage of Jedi General Anakin Skywalker. First received her rank a little over seven months ago. Skywalker, this is all very nice, but I fail to see the point you're making.”
Everyone, everyone who read Ahsoka's profile never saw anything wrong with it. Their gaze never stopped, or became troubled, because with all their wisdom and experience with war, they forgot one very crucial detail.
Anakin took a step forward, towering over Vantora. He narrowed his eyes. “Read that first part again. My Padawan is fourteen years old, Admiral Vantora. You have a problem with the games? She shouldn't even be fighting this war in the first place.”
It was a simple truth that everyone had forgotten. The other officers, the senators who passed laws allowing underage Jedi to fight in the Clone Wars, even the Jedi Masters who expected so much of Ahsoka on the battlefield.
“But- she's a Jedi!” Vantora spluttered. “She's better than half the clone troopers out there!”
Anakin shook his head. “Ahsoka's abilities are advanced, yes. But she's still just a kid, Admiral. Look.”
He nodded across the bridge, through the open door to the command centre. Ahsoka was laughing at something one of the clone had said. It was a bright and happy sound, one he didn't hear nearly often enough.
She looked younger when she laughed. The fierce and capable Commander receded for a moment to let the teenage girl shine through.
Anakin could see a similar thought was occurring to Vantora as well. The Admiral deflated like an old balloon. It was a look that suited him well, in Anakin's opinion.
Vantora wasn't quite done, though. “But- why the games, General? What is the point?”
Anakin considered his answer.
He could tell the Admiral that he had seen the war starting to affect his Padawan. He could explain that he had seen her haunted face after missions, felt her terror before every major battle. Anakin had seen grieve after they'd lost soldiers she was close to, watched her shoulders shake for a moment before she straightened up and kept fighting. He could describe how badly he'd wanted to send her back to Coruscant for a break, but the Jedi were stretched so thin that it wasn't an option.
So he'd done what he could out here to lighten the mood and make things a little easier for her. To let her be a kid again.
He created games. Competitions. Some were based on who could kill the most opponents in a mission, some were challenges to see who could outfly the other in a space battle. Sometimes, they even switched lightsabers, just to see who could fight better with a foreign blade. All of the games had one thing in common- they were distracting from the real horrors of what they were up against.
He didn't tell Vantora any of this. If he didn't understand already, he never would.
Instead, Anakin flashed a charming grin and said, “the point is to win, Admiral. That's what a competition is, after all. ”
Vantora did a very Yularen-like thing then, and growled, shaking his head. “Skywalker, you are impossible.”
“So I've been told,” Anakin said. He took a moment to consider the Admiral. He had been sufficiently cowed. Anakin didn't think Vantora would bother he or Ahsoka again, and that was good enough for him. “Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to debrief my men.”
He made his escape, striding across the bridge to join Ahsoka and Rex in the command centre.
Vantora was temporary.
But it certainly had felt good to bring him down a peg while he was here.
“What was that about?” Ahsoka asked as he stopped by her side. Clearly she'd been paying attention to their encounter from across the bridge.
“Oh, you know,” Anakin said vaguely. “Just telling the good Admiral how we do things around here.”
“Okay, I won't pry,” Ahsoka said. “But don't forget, Master, I won today, so you're buying dinner next time we're on Coruscant.”
“Blast it,” Anakin said under his breath. There was a downside to their games after all.
But it was a price he was willing to pay.
